Hit a Tire

Had a run in with a tire on the 10 yesterday. No way to avoid it. I was cruising 70, two kids in the back, & feel so fortunate that it was lying flat on it's side. This was no Prius tire either. It was a fatty. Had it been a roller, or standing up, it surely would have popped up at the windshield. I guided straight at it in fear of it hitting either side at the wheels. BAM! it went straight under & out the back. GT spec protected everything. Cant say that for the engine under cover.

John, what do you think needs replacement here, & do you know any other way besides retail parts to get them? I havent had a chance to check all the broken stuff. Just a quick pic

Yikes! Glad to hear you and your family are safe. You're fortunate that's the only damage you have and your suspension parts are OK...or even worse, rolling your vehicle. Good reactive thinking.
 
ya . . . I didnt have more that a second or two to react.
Came into view rather quick, & even though the lane beside me was clear, I knew I would have taken a greater chance of making contact with my tires had I made the attempt.
 
Wow, glad you're ok Dave. Looks like only the front underbelly is hurt. Do you even have the rear one on there? I can't see it at least. i would check the exhaust at the connectors to make sure nothing was bent/broken.
 
At a glance, it looks like evrything else is OK. GTSPEC got a bit scuffed, & the Rear can looks fine. I'll get under there tomorrow when it's light out.

Looks like you made out decent. Did you hear it hit anything hard? Like the rear lower GTSPEC I would think would have taken a hit.
 
It was a pretty loud thump sound. I new it broke something, but obviously, those bars are no match for some rubber. It must have kicked out the right side in the rear. It was rolling after it exited.
I know it could have been alot worse

Good thing is there's not really alot to break in the middle. Oh, something like this happened to me where I hit a curb on my splashpan and broke it. A few weeks later all my PS fluid leaked out. Check underneath for impact to stuff the splashpan protects.

First light, I'm gonna pull the remnants of the cover off to look around

And I guess I should say the thing I mentioned wasn't in the FX, haha.
 
Wow Dave, you made out ok with only the broken underbelly cover from the looks of the picture and your description of what happened. Glad you and the family is ok. Just double check eveything under there. This sounds similar to what happened to Bert a few years back.
 
Thanks guys. I took a lookie in the garage tonite, & slab is dry. At least nothing is leaking. Tomorrow I'll dig deeper.
 
Man... that hurts me when I see a nice cared FX got damage. But most importantly, glad you and your family are all fine.
 
I'm glad your family is safe. Ever since I ran over a wood plank that took out two wheels and tires, I'm always looking out for any road debris.

I looks like its light damage concidering the vital part under the fx.. I hope it is just the front belly cover...
 
wow man, luckily it looks like it coulda been much worse. should be just a matter of replacing the broken plastic cover from what I see, #10, no place to get it besides infiniti really though, luckily was just a tire & that it didn't rip up anything else, I had something similar happen to me a really long time ago with a trans am, but there was a rim inside of the tire... that hurt :tongue:
 
wow, it could've been worse man but as long as everyone is ok, that's all it really matters.
 
Thanks. I'll have more info on it as I get it on the ramps later. Fortunate it was just the tire. Only imagine if I had cut some coils, ouch!
We still have lots of clearance even lowered, . . but not cut.
