2011 vw golf tdi
I just joined this forum in hopes of gaining some knowledge before making my purchase of a 07 fx35 awd. I am currently driving a 2011 vw golf tdi and as some of you may know vw will be buying most of the TDI models back due to the high nox emissions blah blah stuff. Anyway I am here to gain some valuable info and feedback on some of the year model fx's and what to look for before buying. I have done some looking around and have a general idea of what to look for on these suvs. I am looking for something around 12k. I found one that has 105k on it awd tech package in great condition that I would like to get my hands on, but before I do that I would like to gain some input from current owners. So please share your experience with your fx35 and what things you suggest that I should stay away from or things that are a must. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to :iS2:

Sorry, I'm a second gen guy, so I'm not too keen on all the first gen knowledge. Beware the bubbled dash though.

Thanks, the one I am currently looking at does have the tech package. I definitely want the adaptive cruise control and back up cam but in all reality that's all I will really want don't need the navi or any of the other gizmos.

One annoying problem comes to mind with the 06 & 07 FX35 is the cold starting problem. Not all but quite a few have this problem. Problem seems related to a part/module called "AC Amplifier" (no, this part has nothing to do with air conditioning). Its an $300 electronic box behind the radio center console. A few have replace this box and problem seems go away. Other than that, no other problem that I can think of off the top.

I think FX is one of the most realible SUV in the market, had an 03 Tech before never had major problem except for the door lock actuator and alternator due to the first year production model. Most of the problem were iron out for later years. Look at the mileage on all the FXs...some still running even with 250k miles on it. They are good buy and they drive amazing especially its Rearwheel AWD...good luck

Sweet thanks for the input, I have seared the forum for issues, I am aware of the bubbles on dash, door lock actuator, however I have not heard anything or found anything about the cold start issue. That is something I will look into now. Does anyone know if the infinity has a LSD rear end if i was to buy a rwd model instaed of awd?

I don't have any issues of the bubbling dash or cold start (and I live in Canada where winter is 6 months and it gets down to -40C).

What I have a problem with is rock chips on roof and A pillars turning into rust in a matter of hours it seems. I tried sanding out some chips last year and filling using a paint pen and it seems to have fixed the issues in those spots. But new ones would come up fast and now there is 20 spots on the roof and A pillars that are rusted and I can't fix them unless I get the whole top end painted. That's really my only complaint on the vehicle.

And I have a base model, no electronic gizmos and I really never had a need for any of them. I just got a 40$ Bluetooth connected to my vehicle for music streaming and calls, and that's it. I didn't really need that either, just felt like spending 40$ haha

Thanks for the info. Sounds like you take care of your car. few things sound like they should't have give a problem until later at least for me it seems like the item at 130k and 98k. still doesn't seem to bad. about how much would you say you spent on maintenance items and keeping her running?
