2014 QX70S
What’s up folks. Just a quick intro to satisfy the posting rules and and say wassup. Wife just bought a new-to-her certified pre-owned 2014 QX70S 5.0. She missed her old 2008 FX35 Tech from awhile ago so this was really the only consideration for another SUV for her (besides Audi SQ5). So far, I’m impressed with everything except the fuel mileage, but totally expected considering we have 3 V8s. Already did some small upgrades like replacing all of the interior lighting with 18 LED modules (what a difference!), 18 LED rear plate modules, aluminum stereo/clima control knobs, short aluminum antenna (missing when we got it), floor mats (missing when we got it). Gotta find a reasonably priced rear tonneau cover in black (missing). Otherwise, car is 98% perfect with 50k miles and warranty. Bought it from an Infiniti dealership about 1000 miles away and had it shipped here. Forum seems to be dying as responses and new posts are few and far between. Good ideas aplenty for mods in the older posts, though. Glad to be here!

Welcome (back sort of?) Jim. I’m new here as well. First time Infiniti owner. What kind of mods are you thinking for the QX70?

Hey Kahlilj. As this is the wife’s car, major mods won’t happen other than an exhaust. She has Corsa exhaust on her Corvette, so she mandated new exhaust for this ride...probably the Borla unit. Other than getting that tonneau cover, I’m probably done with it. Things I’ve done already are in the first post.

lol! I was wondering what kind of mods you had in mind since it was the wife's car & yes I did see the "mods" (upgrades) you mentioned earlier. Pretty kool wifey wants a nice exhaust note on her ride. She's a keeper dude :)

Eh, definitely a keeper 99.9% of the time but that .01% of the time...o_O. What’s on your plate for mods since your QX apparently belongs to you?

Edit: I see you created an intro thread as well and you are attacking the infotainment first. Any mechanical mods in the future? Post a pic of the ride, man. That model was my wife’s 2nd favorite car ever...

Mine is an FX, FX35. No mods other than what you noted the audio. I is simply want to get my iPod integrated with the stereo or an overhaul of the entire system. Since my teenage son will likely be driving this too, I won’t do any performance enhancing mods. I might try to get better brakes though. [emoji846]

I thought I had posted a pic in my intro message? I’ve joined a few forums recently so I may have forgotten. I’ll go back and post one now.

Welcome, kahlilj - which forum are you referring is dying? I've not seen it; in fact, joined IS because I was active in the FX35/45 Group InfinitiFX.org (previous owner of '05 FX35) - but recently purchased CPO QX70 w/35k (love it!) and joined the sister QX70.org forum; talk about dead! Anyway, glad I came across IS, and you will be (soon), too!
Post some pix in your "garage" when you can; interested in swapping for leds myself soon; what rim do you have? I can't tell if they're stock or upgraded (the shadow is making it difficult); Did you purchase with tinted/wrapped headlights? Sweet!.

I think you meant to reply to me, Jim, but I’ll see if I can post some shots of the LEDs. They are so bright you can’t really look directly at them when they are at full brightness...18 LEDs per light will do that. The rims are the standard 21s found on the “S” models. Headlights are factory tinted as well and part of that “S” package. This forum doesn’t seem as active as I thought, though. Probably has to do with the FX/QX70 not being as popular as it once was. Many have probably moved on to other cars...

Hey Jon,
I don’t remember saying any forum was dying although I do think that. I thought NICO was going to be active for FX owners, but doesn’t appear so. I started with Infiniti Fx.org. After a few weeks on there it was suggested to try NICO. I stumbled across this forum while doing a search and it seems as active if not more than the others. So for now I’ll remain active with all. I think there’s probably useful info in all of them.

I’ll post more pics soon. The rims are stock, but appear to be painted over (less than quality refinish). And it came with rear window & tail tints, but not on the headlights. I have done no mods to the car.

lol..no problem; it was Jim165, but I caught just the quote "Forum seems to be dying as responses and new posts are few and far between." and responded without verifying; sorry 'bout that. Tried NICO, but didn't care for the set-up, activity - then, came to IS. Still occassionally on Infiniti FX.org, but less and less since I've moved on to the QX70.

If your wheels are stock for the "S" (sport), they must be 20" or 21"? I had 20"s on my FX35 and loved them; however, upon going to the stock 18"s on the '15 QX70, I'm noticing how much smoother, less rough the ride is. I'm older now, so like the 18" smoother ride, but prefer the wheels that are for the 20s & 21s. Of course, it could be the difference in 10-years of advancement from the 2005 to the 2015? Can anyone share their insight going from 18"s to 20"s+ in the QX70 if you noticed the more stiff, rougher ride? Sure, I loved it as a younger man (felt like driving corvettes - which my dad restored when I was a teen), but...curious now.

Yes, they are the 21”. It also has the horrible Bridgestone Dueler 400s on it. They have plenty of tread left, but I’m tossing them for 295/40/21 Continental ExtremeContacts in a month or so. This truck needs wider tires. I believe they will provide a smoother ride, much less noise and definitely far better performance. Have them on the Vette and had them on my BMW. I think you should go for the 20” at least...there probably won’t be a huge difference in ride quality vs the 18s you have now and it’ll “fill out” the look a bit better...

Awesome to know; thanks! I really like your rims, and the stock ones on the '18 Q70Ls, also the ones on the '17 QX70S Limited! Man! Though, I think I'd go with a charcoal finish, or black. Btw, did you wrap your side air vents/fins and headlines? Or is that standard with the "S" model?

Comes with the “S” model, although I think it’s just chrome...not black chrome I don’t think. I believe the lighting makes it look darker than it really is. Thanks for the compliments, but I find I like the wheels on the Limited better for some reason, especially on a white QX (see attached). You ought to try those since you prefer the darker wheels, plus get that grille and your ride would look pretty dang sharp...

Oh, yeah - the wheels on the "limited" are killer, but, whew - over $1k a piece, not to mention new tires! I'll likely try to time when needing to replace the tires that came with the vehicle; 18" Hankook Dyanpro (not sure if stock, but that's what came with the CPO); When I purchased my '05 FX35, stock was 18" Bridgestones, which I liked; however upon time to replace, went with 20"s of same brand - by the time it was totalled in April '18, I was riding on Toyo 20"s.

Yes, '17 QX70 Grille is an absolute; my first big "mod", you might say. :-)

The 2nd Gen has a much softer ride than the 1st Gen... Even 1st Gens in '03-5 were harsher than '06-8... Kinda like how they muted the muffler... They're trying to appeal to an older demographic now...

They used to call it a "tinted" chrome... Not sure if they still do it... On the initial release in '09, the S version got the tinted chrome... Much like the SPORT option in the 1st Gen got clear tails and tinted chrome in the headlights vs the normal chrome in the non-SPORT versions... Differences are so small you wouldn't really be able to tell unless you put them side by side though...
