Help! Ticking noise in front wheel

I did check the cv joints as well as the dealer, the outer is ver easy to diagnose, the inner is another story! I as well as Infiniti put it in the air and used a stethoscope, you could not hear it, it only reared it's head when putting weight on the wheel and moving the axle back and forth. So as your comment in regards to pep boys they would not have found it either and I would have been out 20 bucks. You obviously haven't had your car to a dealer trying to find a difficult problem with your car yet and I hope you don't! Bottom line is Infiniti doesn't pay their techs shit for service work so they are not very motivated to find the source of many problems unless they Can be easily diagnosed.

I'm glad you got it figured out Renhalt, or at least Im assuming you did. :) ... some issues are just a PITA to diagnose.
I do agree with you with respect to some dealers not wanting to do warranty work. I remember when I was trying to get
warranty work done my dealer was giving me the run around ... excuses about not finding a service bulletin and then it was locating parts...
Finally when they did it, I talked with the service manager and he told me that its a franchise... and his location always loses money
for doing warranty work because Infiniti does not reimburse them at 100%. So they would definitely rather do non-warranty service then
warranty service. You really cant blame the dealers much.... its really a ridiculous business policy that Infiniti has in place, at least in Canada.

Funny how this all came about. The Sales Dept wanted you to buy extended warranty while the Service Dept doesn't want to take warranty job because they lose money? WTF!!!!. I'm so glad that I have not had to deal with dealer at all! Sorry for side-tracked the post!

Again Infiniti sucks in service..

once the original manu warranty runs out, goodluck

Glad you got it fixed. Persistant princess gets her crown :smug:

. . & when is that warrnty up?

Good to hear you got it taken care of. So far I have had a good experience at my local dealer(Perry Infiniti Escondido) I never had a chance to use the Infiniti manufacturers warranty, but I got one of those after market warranties, and I have used that at the dealer without issue. I had a transmission go bad on my Honda right before I got the Infiniti, so I didn't want to take any chances. I think if you find a good dealer and bring your car in for maintenance there regularly they are more eager to help you then if you just show up for warranty work.

Service work, warranty work, it shouldn't matter! I would be more inclined to take it there for service work if they didn't try and screw me on the warranty work! Let's also keep in mind that I have had the SAME experience with two different dealers in two different states! Bottom line is Infiniti's warranty is nothing more than glorified toilet paper unless the problem is so obvious that Ray Charles could see it! If it takes any digging or deep diagnosis your shit out of luck! They want you to come in after the warranty runs out so they can make money on their work! On one hand I don't blame the dealer as Infiniti is screwing them, but on the other hand just because they are getting screwed doesn't make it alright to screw me! After all Im the one that shelled out thousands to drive the car in question that the same dealer sells and makes a profit on! I love my fx but I WILL NOT buy another for this very reason!!!!!!

Infiniti called Monday and said the parts were in and to drop my car off Tuesday morning which I did. They had it all day and changed out the drivers side axle assembly and told me that was the problem and it was fixed. Well guess what? It's still doing it! Idk, but the only thing left is the hub bearings! Has any of you had a ticking from the hub bearings? I think it is the only other thing it can be as the brakes and everything else has been ruled out, it's the only other component on the axle drive line assembly that has bearings in it!!!! The only other thing would be the transfer case itself. I'm really getting annoyed by this whole thing!

unbelievable. I think you're gonna have to diagnose this one...
I've had ticking noises come from hub bearings but not on tight turns. It was going straight at slow speeds.
It wasn't loud ... definitely not something you could feel at your feet, sounded more like stones in the tire.
I'm just curious..... who ruled out break pads? and who did the service?

My GTR has the same problem and on the NAGTROC forum they say that dirt gets between the hub and rotor hat. That allows the 2 pieces to move ever so slightly. If you clean the space between the 2 and get the pemamax grease and apply in the gap between the hub and rotor hat supposedly that will make the noise go away. Ive done it and it does go away but after a while the "clicking" does come back.

u need to re inspect ur suspension. Start with tranny and motor mount. Then check ur lower control arm bushings, check the ball joint with a pry bar. Then try to get a friend and let him drive the car at slow speeds and walk with him and see if u can hear where it exactly coming from (ive used this nd it helped me allot). Im wondering if ur axles need to be greased, just like the rear?

Trust me! Infiniti checked my car and looked for ANYTHING they could find to charge me rather than cover it under warranty! I stood right in the bay for an hour watching the tech and talking to him the whole time, everything checks out! Except they did not inspect the bearings other than running it on the lift and listening with the stethoscope and checking for the common wobble and or play in the wheel. IMO, it has to be the hub bearings, they just put a whole new axle with new cv's on both ends. It's really they only thing left, I haven't called them yet because I'm sure they are going to try and say it's my wheels. Which is what they tried to begin with, anybody with any mechanical knowledge can listen and see that the wheels have nothing to do with it. I think it is definitely a bearing issue.

Yes, they are aftermarket 1 piece wheels and I already know what your going to say so I will answer with saying that my spacers are custom one piece CNC machined from a solid piece of aluminum. I put them on and off with a rubber mallet so no play at all and are as true as true gets! I even tried swapping wheels and spacers from front to back and the same result, again only in drivers front. It is obviously a bearing noise, I'm going to take a video tomorrow and let you guys hear it and get your opinions.

IT'S FIXED!!!
I'm sorry I didn't get a video posted but it has been hectic, anyway I went to battle with Infiniti USA again and they said my only option was to go to a different dealer. The next closest one was 65 miles so they set an appointment at SAM WOPE in Louisville, KY and I took it in today and had the service tech drive it with me and the first thing he said was hub bearings. After looking it over and running it on the rack he came out and said that it wasn't making the typical noise but was different than the other three. So they replaced it and while he was at it greased my rear axles and checked everything over and balanced and rotated my tires at no charge. Get this! He said that Glenn Infiniti in Lexington, KY that just put the new axle assembly in didnt grease the f**king thing when they put it in, so he romoved and greased and reassembled everything. It drives like a million bucks! No noise on the highway! No vibration, no ticking, no pulling to the left, 100% A+
he said it's the third one he has seen and says what happens is dirt or something gets into the bearing and stops one or two of them from spinning. As a result it wears a flat spot on those bearings and instead of making a grinding type typical noise it makes a high pitched whine and when the wheel turns it gives just enough to let those one or two bearing move in the race and the ticking noise is it tumbling around as it moves slowly in parking lots etc. Idk, maybe it's bullshit but it makes since, besides I got it replaced and no more problems. You gives that have the same issue, I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease! :rotfl:

i had a feelin they did a half ass job replacing ur axles. Im glad its fixed

I've noticed a recent ticking when driving slow in the parking garage. Only when turning right, and it seems to only be when going forward, not reverse. I usually do a visual inspection of the various bushings when doing oil changes but guess I need to look more closely, or it could be the bearing which would be a PITA.
