HELP!!! Doors won't LOCK and beeping

Please help! Today on way home to Jacksonville from Key West when I stopped to fill up with gas I couldn't turn the ignition switch all the way back to the lock position, the car also makes and extremely long beeping, much longer than if I just get out of the car with the key in my pocket. Also, I am not able to lock the car at all. When I try to lock it manually the doors just automatically unlock. I'm heading to the store now to get a replacement battery. I sure hope that works. Thanks a lot!

I thought this might be an issue also, but I checked and I ensured that the P was displayed on the dash. It's definitely not an intermittent issue.
 
No. I've started it and turned the car back off a half dozen times or so, and still nothing. Each time I start it I try to play with the ignition knob and steering wheel. Nothing.

The steering wheel is not locked and I can start and drive the car just fine. It's only when I turn the car off and get out that it starts beeping for an unusually long time, can't lock the doors and also the ignition know will not go all the way to the left, it only goes to the OFF position instead of LOCK. This is what tipped me off originally that something was wrong

When you have a low battery, you'll also get a Red blinking key icon flash when you get in to start the car up. It's normally green if the battery in the key is good.
 
Thanks guys! But I took it in and it turns out that a wire had gotten in the way and prevented the shifter from going all the way into park and causing this. Only cost me $94 to get it taken care of. Oh, well.
