Help!! Can't deal with it no more!! STREAKS!

I have streaks on my passenger dash. It almost looks as if they sprayed an ammonia product to clean the windshield and it streaked down on the dash and dried in the sun. I've tried non-greasy armor all. I wish someone has had this problem before and discovered the cure, it seems to have soaked in the synthetic material on the dash.

All Help appreciated.

Give us a photo Diego. It might help. I wonder if you could use a carefully applied magic eraser. Or maybe Windex Auto (doesn't contain ammonia).

dude, you've got to try every cleaner you can, then, if still no dice, talk to an upholstery shop about refinishing the dash, which can be done if all else fails

Ammonia is HARMLESS on a windshield.

The reason why you see most auto glass cleaners say "Ammonia Free!" on the label is because of window tints. The FILM style tint (not the factory tint we have in the rear) will deteriorate, warp, discolor, etc. from ammonia.

Also, if there is any protective finish on the glass, ammonia is no good for it as well.

Oh, and for Diego's situation, so that it won't discolor other things if it gets on it :P

Ya I had always heard that ammonia free was just to avoid any possibility of discoloring your dash. I think if you use regular windex there isn't much of a chance of having a dash problem if you are reasonably carefull and wipe down the dash right away. I used regular windex for years on all my cars without any trouble. It's only relatively recently that I found this stuff in the stores.

dumb question but have you tried warm soapy water/detergent opposed to grease/oil based protectants/cleaners like armorall or vinyl cleaner/restorer?

I would guess that using normal soaps and detergents could rob the plastic of elasticity leading to cracks in the future. Just a guess though...:embarrassed:
