Hi all! We are in the shopping process for a used fx35/45. It is for my wife and we are looking at selling or trading our '05 Xterra SE. Love Nissans and have owned several. Just trying to decide between the two and not break the bank :) We do light off-roading, mostly up trails to get to hiking or snow shoeing places with our dogs. Most of the use will be wandering the great NW traffic and trips for skiing.

Here to learn and make a decision between the two. Love the V8 power but a little nervous about engine issues related to oil consumption. Any input would be appreciated!
 
welcome to iS, both 35/45 are very capable vehicles so either would be a great choice. would recommend the 06+ years if your budget allows. good luck.
 
That's what I figured. Is the oil consumption problem really that bad on th 45's? We have a couple out here in mind but they are used 03/04 with 50-65k on them. The higher mileage '03 is listed at 19.8k and all maintenance done at Infiniti. Not sure about the other. Thanks!
 
Not that bad. It's a strong reliable motor. Block design has been around since the Q, & is Indy car tested.
 
Ok. So how close power wise would a 35 with cai/cbe be to a stock 45? I know the torque won't be there. I am used to driving my Sti with a stage 1 tune and love the low torque of the 45. But the 35 is a little more affordable and probably better mpg I am guessing.
 
Each has it's own character & plenty of drama getting up to speed. Go drive both before you decide.
35 is really fun wound up high & will feel lighter on it's feet in the twisties, 45 is a beast of a motor. Neither are speed demons though, but the sound & handling make up for how slow your really going
 
Welcome to the Scene! Gto s right, it would be best to test drive both to make a best choice for your needs. And no oil consumptions concerns at all on my 05 45 with +90k miles on the motor.
