My very first post, but I've been here for a while soaking in the ideas, tips, and tricks. So FINALLY I am officially introducing myself.
I have a 2009 FX50s, modded with 2017 honeycomb grille, and 20"x 9" Ace Alloy Convex wheels powdercoated gloss black, on 265/50/R20 Nexen Tires (same as Touring Pkg).
I opted to replace the factory 21" wheels with the 20" wheels for a few reasons:
1) I already had the wheels from a previous g37 (main reason).
2) the tires are much cheaper to replace than 21s.
3) the wheels/tires are much lighter in weight than the factory 21s.
4) I think 22" wheels are too big for the FX/QX70
The ride quality is definitely different. A little bouncier with the Nexens, but overall smoother ride. Better acceleration because of the weight difference. However, the cornering is not as good with the softer rubber and wider sidewalls (more roll), and the road noise is a bit louder with the Nexens than with the factory Bridgestones due to the tread pattern.
I'm okay with the ride quality, and think the 20s look pretty good, especially in black. And because black wheels always look smaller anyway, the difference between the 20s and 21s are minimal to the eye. My setup has a wider stance than my factory wheels, so they look a little more aggressive, which I appreciate.
Anyway, I look forward to sharing ideas with you guys, and again, I'm glad to finally be on board (no pun intended).
