Thanks for the nice DIY thread. Just a quick question. When your blower failed did it go instantaneously (like a fuse) or did you maybe have bearing problems? I lost mine yesterday, bang, done, but fuses are good. It had started vibrating a bit over the winter, Actually, there was more vibration through the steering wheel from it than the running engine. Thanks again for any tips.

EDIT: Took mine down yesterday and took the black plastic cover off. Inside the cover I found some splashes of melted solder. Opposite that there was a z-shaped clip, probably a kind of fusible link, designed to melt and spring away under overload. Held it down with an icepick and tacked it back down with the original solder that remained. Working now but since the thing doesn't spin that freely, I expect it will blow again when the fan hits high speed (which is when it blew this time). I expect there is a $70 TYC from Amazon in my near future.

OK, it's dead now. Ordered a TYC replacement, but still doesn't work. Maybe it's the blower relay on the back of the driver's side fuse box. Anything else sounds expensive. If anyone has any thoughts, feel free to chime in. Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, it was a fuse all along. Needed a new motor anyway so I don't feel too bad.

Do I have to replace this motor when it's making a noise while the ac is on like the bearings are dry?

MIne was making some noise for a year or so before it quit. I looked to see if there was anywhere I could oil mine but there wasn't. I think it bound up and blew the fusible clip in the motor and the fuse at the same time that first hot day this year. The TYC part is working fine, but there is a tiny bit of radio interference on AM radio, like a faint whistle, that rises and falls with the motor speed. But with 210K miles and the price of the TYC part, I'll live. Easy change out.

Ya I just took it apart to see if I could oil it too and I noticed that the motor is loose and when it spins it hits the screws underneath it causing that metal/bearing noise I was hearing. So I'm hoping that by replacing this will get rid of that horrible noise!
