Thanks for the nice DIY thread. Just a quick question. When your blower failed did it go instantaneously (like a fuse) or did you maybe have bearing problems? I lost mine yesterday, bang, done, but fuses are good. It had started vibrating a bit over the winter, Actually, there was more vibration through the steering wheel from it than the running engine. Thanks again for any tips.
EDIT: Took mine down yesterday and took the black plastic cover off. Inside the cover I found some splashes of melted solder. Opposite that there was a z-shaped clip, probably a kind of fusible link, designed to melt and spring away under overload. Held it down with an icepick and tacked it back down with the original solder that remained. Working now but since the thing doesn't spin that freely, I expect it will blow again when the fan hits high speed (which is when it blew this time). I expect there is a $70 TYC from Amazon in my near future.
