hey guys im modding my headlights as we speak to try to make it dual projectors. as i was working, above the DTRL area, there's a little hole there. On the back side of the headlights, theres a flap there. Is that hole necessary? is it for some type of drain or heat to escape? ill take pictures if no one know what im talking about.

that hole is a vent and the flap is to keep water out, like an umbrella. don't close that hole, and if your going to do a second projector with an HID you will def need aluminum shielding for the heat

oh ok thanks!. where would a heatshield be needed? ill post some pictures up when i get a chance of what im attempting! If it dont work, ill jsut make a fake projector lol

Hey turbocad, was wondering where would i need to put in the heat shields? and yea its kinda of a hack job but ill clean it up and waterproof it up nicely!

I'm having a hard time figuring out what I'm looking at here, did you cut a hole behind the projector to stick the back of it out? on mine I didn't cut a hole, I just used the front part of the projector and mounted a bulb in the original dtrl socket but it seems you used the whole projector complete?

Yea I used the whole projector and cut a hole in the back for dual hids attempt. I will seal the back up with waterproof stuff. Was wondering where would I need a heat shield? And if this dont work out, I could use my other set to make fake projector setup :p.

well really the rear of the projector housing is acting as a heat shield for you for the most part in that case, it's containing much of the bulb heat. the rear part of the projector doesn't fit inside the headlight as you can see and I could not cut a big hole like that, so I had to use heat shielding to take the place of the rear projector housing.you won't really need any heat shielding with the rear housing in place but it will get pretty hot too.

not sure how your planning to waterproof this if you cut the back out, even the bulb fitting to the projector is not a waterproof connection & is meant to be contained inside the sealed headlight capsule, not outside like that. the projector rear metal housing will get pretty hot so whatever you use to seal it up has to be able to take the heat.

by cutting the back open like you did you just turned this into a much bigger job, the good thing is you can get true double illumination if you aim it right and get it back to waterproof. if you don't care too much how the back of the headlight looks then you should be able to mount and aim the projectors, then silicone the crap out of the whole rear of the light and projector and bulb and everything, silicone should be able to stand up to the heat of the bulb in that housing I think. it may look a little like a butchered up mess from behind when your done but it should work good if that's what you have in mind. to me once the back of the headlight is cut, might as well go all the way like the original dual projectors I built for my FX and build a housing to contain what you've done there.

Im all over the place with this install but i got a question, i was checking out your installs and was wondering how you got rid of the lip where the dtrl use to be on the chrome( the piece of the headlight that is chromed.

Also, with the headlights( in my picture of my retrofit of back part of the headlights), where the dtrl use to be, would i have any clearance issues if i made where the dtrl use to be flush on the bottom?
