Greetings,
I've had my 35 for a few months, and have made a few mods. I'd like to thank Dave and his recommendation of my NISMO Exhaust and AAA Performance install. The results were quite gratifying to say the least. DIY Eibachs (pita without power or air tools), Stillen STB, MOMO shift knob, 22x9.5's with 15 offset (perfect fit) and MD spacer to come.

SO.... my question about headers is, what makes them illegal, emissions and pollutants or decibels and loudness, or both? NISMO headers are my preference followed by CARB exempt DC's. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated...THX

i believe someone told me the DC ones were california OK. but youll find a post here by turbocad explaining what a HUGE pain in the arse they are to install. NOT a diy

Are DC's Carb Cert?????

Yes they are. they come with a plate salderd on . There is a little catch to it though. The CARB Cert has to be done for the exact make and modle of the car, in order for it to matter. However, the CARB Cert has 2 different stages. 1. Visual and 2. Smog test. You'll have to pass both.

Usually, if they see something that is not CARB Cert they don't go though the Smog. But if you pass the Visual, you'll still need to pass the Smog.

I've heard there is nothing money can't fix. You just have to know the right people.

headers

OK...so, unless the DC headers come with a CARB Executive Order specifically for the FX, the headers are technically illegal (although they may be exempt for the G35), correct?

If I install NISMO R headers and I manage to pass the visual, what will cause the smog test to fail? Do off road headers spew out unsatisfactory emissions? thx again.

I believe all headers are for off road use only.
I dont think theres anyway to pass the Visual part of the test with the headers unless the guy misses them or you "Pay to Pass"..............

I don't necessarity think that having headers will cause the smog to fail. I deleted my Cats off of my 1989 M3 and still passed. Usually the emmision changes if you delete the Cats. If you are caught with your CATs deleted, you're facing a $5000 fine.

It's all good. I don't plan not deleting the cats. I'm just trying to figure out what dilemmas I will encounter with the smog police if I do the header mod.
