Trying to decide between:
michelin pilot sport all season 4
and
Continental sportcontact 6

Looking to get a 285/40/21 tire.

Michelin's are newer tires but they sound very promising. The issue I have heard about most for Continental is the tread wear.
Both have a 109Y rating, but Michelin's promise longer lasting quieter tires compared to continental at the same performance of continentals.

I'm always watching the tire scene but it seem's things are very different over here, both tires you mention are not available in a 285/40/21in Europe, are you sure those sizes are available?? If they are available, you're comparing a all season tire with a pure summer, a bit useless if you ask me. There is a Continental Sportcontact 5 SUV and a Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV available in 285/40/21, both summer tires. According to reviews and the European tire label there's less than a hair between them, both score very highly. the general opinion here in the past was that Michelins have the best tire wear, but at a price. Funny enough, the European label has no tread wear figure like in the states, but it does have a roll noise figure!
The Conti + Michelin are rated at +- 75db roll noise. For what it's worth, the Pirelli P Zero + Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3 SUV (my tires) score just as good as the conti's + Michelin's but their roll noise is rated at +- 70db.

Thanks for looking into it. I guess the tire scene is a bit different in EU compared to North America. I found the Goodyear tires you have, but I read so many reviews for that and the Michelin sport contact series about horribly fast treadwear that its making me pause. So I found this Michelin tire, and although its All Season it has had good reviews for handling. So I wanted to look more into it. Here are the links:

OK, no idea why tire choice differs so much between continents........... if wear is your major concern then the all season is the obvious choice, those soft Conti summers melt like butter (as most top notch summer's do).

some pro's + con's of the all season's:

Pro's: longer tread wear
no winter set necessary

Con's: high price
higher roll noise
not the best summer tire
not the best winter tire
look ugly :(

But I'm guessing you kind'a knew all of this already............

I don't think you will find those in 285/40/21. That is a bit of an odd size, any particular reason you want to go with that size. It is smaller than stock.

The asymmetric 5 is not available in 285/40/21 (well, not in Europe)

285/40 smaller than stock?? Compared to stock 265/45/21 the sidewall is 5mm lower but it’s 20mm wider
 
They are wider but diameter is smaller. Unless the FX50 is lowered, they might look a little funny in the wheel well.
 
Well, I placed an order for the Goodyear Asymetric 2 in 285/40/21... will report back when installed. But it wont be until end of the month-ish
 
I just checked mine, after 20k I have 5.5mm tread left in the middle, a bit less on the inner + outer. I keep them at 45 psi, I have the asymmetric 3
 
45psi? the OE tires were pumped at ~33psi. Are the Goodyears supposed to be at that pressure?
 
LOL...... no, has nothing to do with Goodyear’s, I prefer them this way, it also evens out tread wear, lower pressure puts more stress(wear) on the inner + outer edges. But it depends on the tire, the stock Dunlop’s felt like concrete at 41 psi, so I ran them lower, but never liked them.
 
I ended up going with Pirelli Scorpion P Zero in 295 40 21. I just had them installed so we will see how they perform. The only reason I went with the Pirellis is because I got a crazy good deal. The tires were take-offs from a Range Rover. They only had 5 kms on them. Got them for $400 Cdn total.
 
Yah, I couldn't believe the deal. I run them at 34 psi. I plan on rotating front to back every 5000 km. Will take pics shortly.
 
looks great! I'm guessing you use more winter tires than summer? I have a set of 18's for winter with Blizzak DMV2, will need new tires for next winter. The summer Asymetric 2 will hopefully arrive by the end of the week and i'll install them next week on the 21" rims.
 
I retired from the RCAF a few years ago so don't hardly drive in the winter. I just keep the same tires on year round. I am curious, what 18s do you have that fit of the FX50 calipers?
