Handy_Andy's Mini Meets

Chris what's the part number? Maybe someone here can buy it if they want to do the paddle shifters since it appears already butchered for it.

Well again, just went came back from a test drive on Chris new paddle shifter. The slip and vdc light came on when I test drive with the wrong spiral spring. I put the correct spiral spring in went for a test drive, both slip & vdc light turn off after awhile and then come back on all of the sudden. Tonight I install the paddle shifter with the right spiral spring went for a good 10 miles drive. I read that if you drive straight for a few hundred yards, these light should turn off. It not happening. Not sure what else to look for. :1confused:

Andy:
"Spiral Cable/Angle Sensor" is the piece that transfers all the cables from behind the steering wheel to front. This piece spins freely onto itself and it also Contains a Senor that keeps track of the angle of the steering wheel.

Although this part is Keyed, and can only be installed 1 way, the part that spins, can also be installed 180 degrees upside down.

So that was it. When I took out the Angle Sensor, I installed it 181.2 degrees upside down. The dealer was concerned that why this happened and immediately noticed the Paddle shifters. After I assured them that I had taken the FX to the Alignment shop and the Steering wheel is now straight, they recalibrate the Sensor. I drove the car for 1/4 mile exceeding 45MPH and the lights turned off.

Thanks Ed, I will take the Steering Angle sensor off the Spiral Spring, spin it 180 degree and re-install to see. I didn't have any of these problem when I install mine.

Also, to state the obvious, make sure the brake fluid is at maximum. There are reports even if it's at the minimum brake fluid line, it can make the VDC and SLIP light go off.

^^What Ed said, it's worth checking. On my last Infiniti (2nd Gen sedan) those lights were coming on even when the brake fluid level was still at the minimum level. They kept coming back until I topped it up.

Thanks Andy for the hard work you are putting into getting it working; very much appreciated. Who knew that it would be difficult but then again it's always my FX that is troublesome.

Here are pic of old steering wheel and the new one. Andrew had to work hard to get my old one off.

Chris, I sat in your car on Sunday and that new steering wheel is pretty nice man. Better condition it once a month. :wink (2): I wasn't really interested in the shift paddles until I've started driving more in manu-mode. Then after seeing your setup and 'testing' it on my car, it made me want them even more, so it's a definite yes now! :top:

Why 07 part? And I think your 05 part needs the tilt meter?

I believe Andy said it didn't matter at the time of which 1gen year because they should all be the same. The reason for the no tilt shroud is because the tilt has to be relocated underneath the steering column. Therefore, Andy has to customize a opening for the new location. If you where to reuse the original shroud it will leave visiable hole; plus also I think it was in the way of the paddle shifters.

That 07 part was originally ordered for my upgrade to the 07 steering. The 07 Spiral Spring has an additional pin for the illuminated control buttons on the steering wheel. You don't have to get order the 07 Spiral Spring for < 06 FX. FX35 and FX45 are the uses the same part.

The tilt meter has no barring on the Paddle Shifter. We want the cover without the power tilt meter so that it will not have the cutout for the power meter due to the fact that the power tilt meter control/switch will need to be relocated to the lower column cover.

Thanks, the new steering wheel was calling my name on ebay; also seeing and touching Andy's new steering wheel felt so nice, soft and clean I had to get it. Plus, it came in handy because if it wasn't for the new steering wheel the paddle shifters would have probably off my list becauses how hard it was to get those security screw off.

Talk about getting those airbag secure screw off. I was having a hard time getting Andrew's too. He did it though :top:.
I had a hard time with one of the bleeder screw on Dave car too on Sunday. And Dave got it off too. :top:

Man, I'm getting old and tired!!!!!
