GTSPEC Aluminum Under Panel for FX35 (1st Gen)

My biggest problem with GTSpec in regards to the FX is availability, You basically have to buy the parts when they are available, not when you have some extra cash that you saved up for an item and now its a 6 month wait:frown:

We are slowly improving on this issue. Due to the slow economy in 2009/2010, we are force to be conservative on some of our lines. We were not expecting the FX line to move this well.

Right now, we have all the 1st GEN FX parts in stock, excluding the rear tie braces which will be here in 4 weeks. I have the front engine brace, front four points brace, mid four points brace and the front strut braces all in stock.

We also stock up on the mid chassis brace, which has alot of inquiry from this forum.

We hope to do the same for the 2nd GEN FX.

Good to hear :smile (2):

I don't think the price is too bad really, considering the detail in craftsmanship. I do have a question though, is this mostly just a cosmetic upgrade or will it actually take a beating if someone was to go in the brush with it (ie: does it have any supports or gussets or is the only strength its thickness and the louver punches)?

Do you have any pictures from standing in front of the car? I'm not so sure I'd want a massive sheet of aluminum showing from the front of the car, so would a flat black finish be available in the future?

Looks like the trap doors won't work with my 08 45. My drain plug and filter are both on the driver's side. Nuts.

this price really isn't that bad for a sheet of custom fab'd sheetmetal for the underbody, that's vented and had trap doors..... I would deff paint it black though.

it's cheaper than buying a louver press & a cnc plasma cutter & a tig welder & a sheet metal brake & aluminum stock & building it yourself, that's for sure.

I'm sure there are less expensive ways to build something like this but then it wouldn't be as nice as this either... sometimes you get what you pay for, yes that's a lot of money for something you won't see or appreciate much but it does look to be built without compromise in mind, maybe the market would be much wider for something that is not as nice & not as much... it's def a beautiful piece though... I woulda done dezus connector flaps though rather than the many allen head bolts personally although the allen heads are probably way more secure...

I know a guy in Brooklyn who has most of this gear and can probably whip us up some under panels

I am sure if we use cheaper grade aluminum, get rid of the vents, and get rid of the side where we have to weld and cut, the price will be significantly cheaper.

But that's not the kind of products we like to built. It's true, different market has different type of product demand and different type of buyers. Our panels for the Subaru market sell very well, so I don't think it's the price, but rather the market demand for such a product.

Maybe this is just not something FX owner are willing to spend their money on.

yeah, anyone can make A panel, but with the added vents, trap doors, hardwares, precision in the cut and mounting points ... I doubt he can achieve anything close to what we have here.

Countless hours of measurement, CAD drawing, revision after revision were done before the final products were produced.

I agree, many could make this cheaper & easier but not many could make it nicer, I'd say it's worth the price, you can see the quality, question is how many are going to appreciate it enough to justify the price & buy it. probably only the few who have already done everything else they could do to there fx, otherwise most are going to think of what else they'd rather have... a splash pan is going to be pretty low on the big priority list of most fx owners I think. def a beautiful piece & I'm sure some will buy it

Apologies, my joking reference to an optional builder was actually to Turbocad as he has been collecting quite a few tools as of late =) Based on the visuals the panel is very nicely made and the quality is obviously GT-Spec. I've purchased every brace available for my fx (including the new mid chassis) and most likely will purchase the under panel at some point.

Possibly a little due diligence (or early adopter buy-in) to get a feel for price point might have helped your introduction for this item. A good start for this product would be a GB, establish the desire and understanding of the quality with an introductory price. My biggest concern is my drop and if I'll chew up the panel on the first parking block I misjudge

I would absolutely buy this to protect all the custom fabbed pipes in my bay. I guess if there are no clearance issues with the OEM panel, we can assume no clearance issues on this one?

Sign me up for this. And the finish is fine for me - don't think many people will even see it.

Wonder if it whistles or makes any sound at speed?

No, our panel completely close up all the gaps like the OEM panels. It's very precisely cut to avoid the front of the panel from catching wind.

It's at the same height as the plastic panel, zero clearance issues.

What year fx was this tested on?

My filter doesn't face the passenger side like this pic, mine faces forwards.

I'm pretty sure there are at least 3 different configurations of filter placement. 35 RWD, 35 AWD, and 45. Maybe even some changes between years.

Also, I'm pretty sure it was test fitted on a RWD based on posts on the ORG.

Yep, that filter location looks like my car. That's the RWD configuration.

I'm very interested in this product. I do lots of driving in winter and off-road and could use a stronger front skid plate.

As others have said the price seems a little prohibitive, unless this thing can take some abuse.

Do you have any info for us about thickness of the material? Strength? Etc?
