GTR wheels on my 09 FX35

Thanks for the info Logan. I'll check out Nagtroc.com.

BTW, your FX looks great. I love the wheels and lip. Lights too..

Is it better to buy 4 x GTR 10.5s and put them on the front and back versus running a 25mm spacer on front? I assume its pretty tough to find a set of GTRs little alone, finding 4 x rears???

A neighbor down my street has a red GTR with grey hyper wheels. I should ask him if he's going to upgrade some day to new wheels and then I can buy his.

Just for grins I put one of my 94 RX7 wheels on my FX to see how flush it would be and it looked perfect with a 18x9 with a +30 offset. The wheels look too small in my opinion compared to the 20", but the width was perfect. Just wanted to put the info out there incase someone is looking at after market wheels with that offset.

Nagtroc is the best source, again its a waiting game so check it a couple times a day to see what's new. If you want flush on the fronts with 10.5's you will still need to run a 5-10mm spacer as the FXs front quarter wells protrude that much further than the rears. Finding a full set of 10.5's make the search that much more difficult. Inded up buying a completed staggered set then buying three 10.5 singles to get four clean 10's.

I'd definitely hit your neighbor up =)

Background: I have a 2009 FX35 AWD and I've been running 2010 GTR wheels (9.5" in front and 10.5" in back) for 2 years. I ran the stock Bridgestones all around (265/50R20s) and they've run great.

It's time for a new set of tires as mine are worn out after 48,000 miles.

I am planning on buying Hankooks Ventus ST RH06s.

I'd like to put 295/45R20s on the front and back. Has anybody done this on a 2nd gen with GTR wheels? If so was there any issues with rubbing?

Thanks,

Thanks,

You have AWD so you should adjust the traction patch for all tires to be more similar otherwise it could mess with the awd system.

Typically we put 285/35-20 tires all around for a square setup on the GT-R and this works fine on the stock 9.5" front rims.

With the taller sidewall on the FX you should be fine with 295s all around but 265s up front are probably more sane and have better steering response due to a lighter tire. You aren't able to rotate the wheels anyway.

No worries about the AWD/TC with either choice since the overall diameter is correct. The FX35 runs in RWD most of the time, so running 295s in back is an advantage.

-- BTW thanks for the pics on your setup - I'm debating selling my 2012 GT-R premium wheels or just slapping them on the FX35 with Parada Spec-X 265/50-20s all around.

Destroid,

Thanks for for the info on the tire set ups. I didn't know about the 185 size option.

I think ink you should mount the GT-Rs. They look great!

Sure - I run stock tire sizes on the GT-R, but many, many folks switch to the Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 285 all around for track use and cost since they aren't run flats.

On the FX my only concern is how much the rear wheels will protrude - from the pics even the 265s seem to be a bit wider than the fenders. They do look bad ass though.

The rear wheels are a +25 offset? 295's should be fine in that offset and 10.5". It would only be a problem if you were lowered a lot, then it would rub. I run the same offset and 295's, but in 22"s and it works, and I'm slammed. At stock height, it can sort of look like the tires protrude from the fenders a little, because they do.

Do you need to replace your brake as well? I heard the brake is designed for each wheel so if you change your wheel, the old brake will not be as efficient as how it works on the OEM rims

You don't need to replace brakes.

All the stock FX wheels are cast aluminum. The GT-R wheels are lightweight forged aluminum by RAYS so you have slightly BETTER braking, acceleration, and steering feel due to less rotating mass (assuming same tire size)

Of course the FX50 Akebono brakes are a nice swap. And the AP Radical 390mm setup for the FX35 is awesome.

Thanks for clarifying it!

you ran 265/50 in the rear? why would you do that? and now you wanna go 295/45 in the front??

^ you're right. if he runs same size tires the sidewall/contact patch from the front will differ from the back noticeably...

The wheels are set up for staggered size tires. 265 front and 295 rear is 10mm wider than the factory GT-R tires and will work fine.

Whether you like the look of staggered is personal preference. Two sets of GT-R fronts would be ideal for 265 all around. Or two sets of GT-R rears with 295 all around would look very aggressive.

Been searching the internet for a while when I came across this thread. Lost of good info on here. I would like to know if having 20x10.5 wheels all around with 295/50 all around would be an issue with turning?

Thanks in advance.

BTW...just bought the 2012 FX35. So far so good!

No, you're not going to have an issue w/ turning. I would worry more about rubbing. 295 is pretty wide and 10.5" wheel in front at +25 offset is a little aggressive. No problem if stock height, but if you start lowering, may rub a bit.

In the back he won't have any problems.

Up front if he tosses on a 10mm spacer he shouldn't have any problems either.

Yeah, in the back it's fine. But in the front, if he throws on a 10mm spacer, that will stick out some. +15 on 10.5" is going to stick out in front. Especially w/ 295 tire. If at stock height, no problems since there is so much wheel gap.

Whoops I didn't notice he had a 2nd gen. Don't know what the fitment is like on the 2nd gens.

On the first gen I think you are right, depends on how low you are going. I test fitted my rear GTR up front, and with a 10mm spacer, and even with my H&R's and only about ~2 degrees of camber I had plenty of room, and the fitment looked spot on.
