While the VQ35HR that powers the latest version of the 350Z is a big improvement over the previous VQ35DE, it suffers one major downside: the differences between it and the old motor are enough to make nearly all aftermarket VQ parts useless on the HR. Aftermarket parts powerhouse Greddy have come to the rescue, though, with a brand-new VQ35HR-specific twin turbo kit that they say is good enough for ~700hp.
The kit includes new cast-iron exhaust manifolds, turbochargers, wastegates, air filters, twin-core front mounted intercooler, piggy-back ECU and all associated plumbing. Pricing for the kit isn't readily apparent, but keep an eye on Greddy's site to find out when it becomes commercially available. All we need now is a twin-turbo kit for the VQ37HR and someone crazy enough to drop it into an all-wheel-drive Skyline 370GT. Voila, DIY GT-R.
