Goodbye FX

When I got my battery tonight, the computer at Autozone had the FX under "Infiniti Truck". Flame on.

Lol all NY'ers call the FX a truck. Even people at the dealership call it a truck.

Adjuster is coming to look at the car this week. I dropped it off at MAC on Tuesday morning. Really anxious to hear what the adjuster has to say.

so what are you driving in the meantime? Is the insurance covering the rental?

Driving my moms Nissan right now. A rental isn't covered under my insurance policy. I hope they don't total the car. I also just found out if it needs fixed instead all the side windows have to be replaced because of giants cuts in the glass from the telephone line. And also since the windshield cracked.

By the way I forgot to ask how well did the shop install your windshield? Any issues such as windnoise, creaking, scratches on the dash or paint? This is the first time I've ever had to replace a windshield in a car.

Mine was painless, right up until I got another crack a few months later. :at-wits-end:

windshield install was perfect. Out the door dealer price was low $800 for me. The actual windshield costs $500 or so.

I would recommend getting it installed at the dealer because for mine, the mirror assembly glue looked bubbly when they reapplied it, so the dealer just bought a whole new assembly and put that on after the aftermarket guys at the dealer did the windshield. What I'm basically saying is if they do screw something up, the dealer will take care of you and aftermarket install places don't necessarily have access to OEM parts like that where they can write parts off.

What nissan are you driving. Kim and I may test drive the pathfinder....we really love it. Or we may get the JX later, or mayber even the new QX56 later in 2013....she is going to need a bigger car. Audi Q7 is not out of the question either...used.

I got my windshield replaced a few weeks ago and it is perfectly fine, no issues. I prefer to have a Glass repair place install the windshield, because that is their livelihood, they replace windshields everyday. The Infiniti Dealer would only replace a minimal amount of windshields each year. I did get the glass place to get me an OEM windshield from Infiniti though.

The Infiniti dealer does not install windshields....what they do is call a specialized Glass repair place and they install it. So you get the same level of install, however, if they were to screw something up, you have the insurance of the dealer for parts.

What I also observed is that the dealer gets the windshield significantly less than the glass installer directly, so you would typically get the install done cheaper even though the dealer labors out the install. The install place wanted to charge me over $1,000, but the same installers subsidized by the dealer wanted $800.

Where I went The windshield is guaranteed for life for leakage problems etc by the glass installer and it only cost me a total of my $300 deductible.

$800 is really cheap for the windshield with the rain sensor I thought it would be over $1K. Only thing though is that I can only let martino auto concepts change the windshield cause if the insurance is fixing it the whole car is getting resprayed so they take out the windshield anyways. I also remember you telling me they have to replace the rain sensor too cause that gel pad isn't reusable? I'll keep an eye out on the bubbly glue thing your talking about. What really worries me is water leaks cause I heard of horror stories about people having water leaks and wind noise afterwards.

I've been driving my moms Nissan Quest :P embarrassed driving it to class. By the way after driving and being in both the JX and QX I would go with the QX. Build quality an comfort craps on the JX!!

I think I paid $250 since that is currently my deductible.

I've had a windshield replaced on my Mustang twice, on Kim's car once, and on the FX. Never had problems here. I think all glass installers have lifetime install warranties from leakage....I haven't heard anyone by me have any sort of install or leakage problems. Michigan roads suck and I know quite a few others that have had their windshields replaced without issues ever.

The bubbly thing is this....it's the adhesive from the rain sensor. What windshield glass installers do is heat up the adhesive and then stick it back on to the new glass....they are re-using the adhesive. Since I am very very picky, I noticed tiny bubbles from it especially later after time. I mentioned it to my dealer and they just ordered a whole new rain sensor with adhesive for me so when it was applied it was like brand new. Would a normal person noticed? Probably not. If I hadn't chose to go to a dealer, knowing my relationship with them, I wouldn't have easily gotten a replacement because technically it wasn't really a problem.

That happened to me too, except it was a matter of weeks later and it was two chips a few days apart that are now cracks. I almost cried. Then of course I realized it was just that I had some dust or something in both eyes at once. Total coincidence.

UPDATE:

The FX isn't going I was almost 100% sure insurance would of totaled it with the amount of damage it had but they didn't. I'm so happy because I'd rather keep my baby. Too much care has gone in this car to just give it up.

Total damage estimated at $15,000 all new glass all around, entire car is getting repainted, new hood, rear bumper, mirror, windshield, all new trim, too many things to name. Everything is being redone. Even the panels that were painted a few months ago. Every single thing is getting fresh PPG Cermamic Clear coat.

Ill post some pictures of the prep that I took today when I stopped by MAC.
