Glove box light

Follow this down to step 6, and you will see the light behind (attached) to the glove box.

Finally switched out the glovebox light to an LED... that sucker's been burnt for the last two months - one can imagine how annoying it gets to have to open the sunvisor to illuminate the glovebox properly...

So my hunt began for an led to throw in the glovebox, and it brought me to http://autolumination.com/74.htm

First attempt was a "neo-wedge" style bulb (as recommended in another thread for the clock) NO GO as the glovebox doesn't use a wedge connector

Second attempt was a #24 type bulb from the same page (http://autolumination.com/74.htm) also a NO GO as it was too big

Finally I went with a #74 bulb, well actually I was so positive it would work I bought 5 different versions (to test which was brightest of course), and eureka it worked.

So to clarify:

The bulb to use for our gloveboxes is a #74-type LED (or T5 base incandescent).
The brightest bulb (which fits) for our application is the "MATRIX II 5 LED" and can be located here: http://autolumination.com/74.htm

Looks like this:

Doesn't this light/bulb stay on all the time, whether the headlights are on or not? I think I remember reading that somewhere. It's always on when the car is on even if the glove box is closed.

It's on when your low-beams are on.. And yes, when it's on it's on.. Regardless of whether the glovebox is open or not

Unfortunately I followed your exact details
for the Glove Box bulb for my 2007 FX35
from autolumination website #74 Matrix II LED
and received the bulb and it was so loose it falls out of the socket
I did not even try reconnecting it back into the vehicle.

What happened you think? I have to return the bulb to autolumination.

Anyone else follow this advise and get the wrong fitment bulb?

What a hassle just for one tiny little bulb.

Thanks,
Steve

Infiniti wants $35 for the tiny glove box light bulb for my Gen 1 FX! Type 2721 (ANSI number) bulbs fits the socket - replace the bulb, not the entire assembly. There are really 2 parts to that assembly: a tiny bulb and a 1" long black plastic socket/holder which accepts the bulb at one end and the 12v wiring connector at the other. (I assume that Infiniti is charging $1 for the bulb and $34 for the socket/holder...;)) This black socket/holder sits in 2" plastic white housing which is screwed into the glove box. The solution is to reuse the socket/holder and replace the lamp. I found 2 types of bulbs at Advance auto that fit the socket, the 2732 (2.3 Watts) and the 2721 (1.2 Watts.) I used the lower wattage 2721 since the 272 seemed to run hot (this bulb will be burning in the glove box when the headlights are on.) The original bulb had no markings.
