G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

ok this left one is constantly bugging me, I really do not want to redo it...I think I am just looking at too much. Here is a pic, you can see that the stencil was not centered on the left...uggh. I think I am going crazy. :mask:

I think its fine. For the angle that its gonna be at when mounted etc.....Its not worth redoing it.

I think you are right, I had my son hold it at rim level, in the air, under water, just so I could get an idea on how noticeable it would look. This car stuff is making me crazy.
 
my guess, tc6 will def redo them.

I find it easier if u trim down the stencil the minimal, then rip off 1 corner edge of the smooth paper layer, then have the masking part stick to the caliper for alignment. once u figured out the centering, then carefully rip off 1/3 of the opposite side of the smooth paper and lay it down and complete the rest. hope that's not too confusing :confused.:.
 
I think you can live with it especially since the view will be partially blocked by the wheels.
 
Nobody will notice that 1/32" left bias once it's installed. It looks great. Besides, I think you've already surpassed Akebono's stencil application tolerance...

My rule of thumb is, always try your best to do something as perfect as you can, you should at least wind up with something pretty good. don't torture yourself, that's really not that bad. I can't honestly say that I wouldn't redo it if it was mine, maybe, how much does it really bother you? I could see leaving it too, could always revisit it later, after it's fully cured. Like chuck said, even mass production ones can be off a little too. You really won't notice that, well, YOU will but no one else will; )
 
Decided to throw on a few coats of Engine Enamel Clear.

very nice, good call on the clears.

Small tip -- when you get it all bolted up, put a cloth rag over them before you put your wheels back on. Prevents chipping if you accidentally hit it with your wheel spokes. Saves you a headache.
 
Good tip, I would probably faint if I messed them up while installing. I got them used and they were chipped up and gouged pretty well. Had to use jb weld to fill in some of the gouges.
 
My gosh, the pair made me drool all over my keyboard. They look SOOOooooo good. No no, I wasn't looking at the iS Supporter Lounge while posting :wink:. Awesome.

Revised FX50S Brake Upgrade Instructions

I'm saving up for the FX50S brake upgrade and noticed that some of the part numbers and prices have changed since the original parts/instructions list was created. I put together an updated PDF version, let me know if I left anything out. Hopefully this will be of some use to other noobs like me looking to upgrade the crap OEM brakes. Thanks again to turbocad for busting his a** and using his FX as a lab rat to get this kit put together.

Revised the instructions to fix a few things. If anybody finds any other errors please let me know and I'll fix them.
 
I just picked up a used set and was wondering if it would be a idea to take the calipers apart and rebuild them(removing the 4 main bolts)? also a great time to powder coat?
