FX50s Resonator Delete

great! sounds nice...

now lets get some video of you while driving  so we can see what it really sounds like....(you just started it so its a cold start so its gonna sound different than when you are driving around...)

Sounds good. Also like the door up slowly, engine start, sound clip, engine off, door down slowly.....very dramatic.

right, i didn't know a resonator delete was illegal... So i am polluting more than others? and why 5 years?

Also, it doesn't seem to change the gas consumption much...

Just make sure to keep your resonators so you can re-install them when you sell the vehicle.

A resonator has nothing to do with emissions, you will be fine without it.

Also, his local laws are probably different than ours in Cali, so 5 years before smog or inspections may not apply.

Very "mean" sound coming out of that. But I would like to hear it in open space, instead of in an enclosed area (ex. garage). I have the same vehicle, and I'm seriously thinking of doing it as well, but would like to hear the sound coming out of the exhaust out in the open. Nevertheless, I like it very much!

Resonator delete is not illegal and you are not polluting more (nor will you use more or less gas). A resonator basically just affects sound. The bank 2 O2 sensor is directly behind the cat. So anything you do after the cat really won't affect pollution or legality assuming you maintain the rear O2.

The item that would cause you to pollute more is the catalytic converter.

Just had this done today!

Hi,

Newb here... well newb to the FX scene anyways. I've had two G35 coupes prior to this.

I just had the resonators cut off and straight piped today at the local muffler shop (Hoegler's in Richmond, BC) and wanted to share my impressions for anyone else looking to try this.

The sound is deeper and has a nice V8 rumble to it now. There is a slight increase in drone in higher gears around 1700-1900rpm.

To set some context: When I say slight, I mean completely bearable. I had a Borla system on my first G35 (auto) and the drone was so annoying I ended up spending more $$ on adding a pair of resonators and an X pipe section. A Mustang buddy of mine told me that X pipes tend to quiet things down compared to H pipes as was original on the Borla system. When I transferred the system over to my new G35 (M6) I had the resonators removed as the sound was actually quieter than stock. So, I've been around the block a couple of times in this arena.

Back to the FX: I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a bit more bite from their FX50 without spending a bunch of cash on a complete system. Price31, no offense (and much appreciated that you led me onto this mod ) but the sound from your video almost put me off doing this as it seemed really loud. I bit the bullet and took the chance anyways and I can say that around town driving @ 6-7/10ths is actually really nice. Not too loud, not raspy, and not ricey!

I hope this closes the loop for anyone on the fence about this mod... the video is pretty loud and is representative of when you really hammer it. But brisk driving around the city, it was well worth the $150 spent!

PS Hoegler's did a great job and the welds look nice and clean.

Cheers!
