FX45 Uses Oil?

I have a 2003 FX45 with 98,000 miles. In the past year, I have had to add a quart of oil between changes. There is no oil on my garage floor and I haven't noticed any blue smoke from the exhaust.

I called the local Infiniti dealership and they told me it was normal to use a quart or two between changes.

Is it normal for an FX45 to use oil at the age and mileage of mine?

How many quarts do you usually use when you do an oil change? I have never had to add extra quarts in between changes and I have a 2005 with 78k miles. I usually use 7 quarts when doing an oil change.

But the FX45 has been known to burn oil.

I have this issue everytime.

SOOOO much power ha ha...

this is normal but you should always check it at 1,500 or 2,000 after every oil change..

yet this could improve if you use Synthetic oil..

I seen imporvement... less of a loss when I take it in.

It takes 7 quarts for an oil change. I didn't need to add oil between changes until around 80K miles.

I must admit that I don't make all that much use of the power - but it is nice to have to be able to pick my spot to merge into traffic. My husband is another matter though - he makes sure that he is the first to get everywhere. I don't let him drive my FX much.

I'll check the oil more often. While I am not happy that the car is burning some oil, I am relieved to hear that I am not alone. I was thinking that I was going to start looking for a new car. I really like driving the FX and would like to keep it for a few more years.

Try changing to synthetic oil like mobile 1 and you should be fine. I have used it from the beginning and I have not had any issues with burning oil.

And welcome to the iS community

what do you guys think about high mileage oil products? My previous car burned oil, about half a quart between changes. I switched it to Valvoline mile mileage, which sucked. It still burned. Then tried the Castrol high mileage, and no burn off. I used the Castrol High mileage with great success in my old car. think synthetic doesn't burn off? or a higher burn temperature? My FX burns about a quart between changes.

HM oils typically have more seal swell agents in them (isn't it amazing that such things exist?) to try to reseal an engine that is leaking oil. These will not help an engine that is burning oil past the ring pack, and will have limited effectiveness on valve seals as well. Part of the issue can be volatility, some oils will flash off up to 10% of the oil under usage (that would be an oil to stay away from). Until oil usage gets above a qt every 2k or so, i wouldn't worry about it.
