Hi guys I bought my 2005 fx45 a few months ago and it developed a "whomp whomp whomp" kind of noise from the front passenger side. I admittedly put it off longer then I should have due to life events. But it has gotten worse and louder. It does it at pretty much any speed, and gets louder and more pronounced when turning. I also have a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds. I jacked it up and checked the front wheels for up/down play and found none. When I grabbed the tie rod ends they are a little loose, as well as the endlinks. I know I will need to replace those, but don't know if they are responsible for all the symptoms I'm having. I'm about to rotate the tires to see if it makes a difference and will report back. I'm just look for ideas in the mean time. Also when sitting still and turning the wheel there is no noise. Thank you in advance for any help.

yea any play in the the tie rods/end links is not good, they have to be replaced all so check your front HUB'S BEARING ASSEMBLY for any weird noise good luck.

thanks guys. The tie rod ends and end links are ordered and will be replaced when they arrive. I was guessing the wheel bearing was giving me grief, but the absence of any 12 and 6 play in the wheel threw me for a loop. Maybe I'll just do it anyways while I'm in there.

oh, and also the noise isn't typical wheel bearing noise, it's more of a thumping sound instead of the typical whiring I'm used to. I don't know if that helps describe it any.

One have experienced bad bearing without any 12 or 6 o'clock plays. It sounded like you have a jet engine running with you and the noise increase/decrease frequency with speed. Tie rods and end links tighten up your steering.

Had a seized caliper recently and it felt like I was in a helicopter- never would have thought a brake pad rubbing against rotor would make that much noise and vibration.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned tires. I've had some tires that were pretty noisy and it seemed like a wheel bearing problem but it was just tire noise. My Blizzak DM-V1 currently on my FX is pretty loud when coming to a stop. Almost sounds like a wheel bearing noise.

Thanks for all the help guys. Turns out it was the wheel bearing. I guess I was looking for the sound and play I'm used to with them, and this was different. Changed it out yesterday and it's smooth as silk now. Thanks again.
