FX45 Changing Your Drive Belts

**THIS PROCEDURE WAS DONE ON MY M45, IT SHOULD BE SIMILAR ON THE FX45, PLEASE CHECK YOUR MANUAL**

TOOLS:
10MM SOCKET
12MM SOCKET
14MM SOCKET
SOCKET WRENCH
JACK STANDS
JACK OR RAMPS
WHEEL CHOCKS
2 5-6MM ALLEN WRENCHES

SAFETY:

NEVER GET UNDER A CAR WITHOUT QUALITY JACKSTANDS AND WHEEL CHOCKS IN PLACE AND NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER GET UNDER A CAR WITH JUST A JACK BEING USED.

1. PUT THE FRONT OF YOUR CAR ON JACKSTANDS OR RAMPS, SECURE REAR WHEELS WITH CHOCKS.


2. REMOVE ANY ENGINE COVERS THAT MAY GET IN YOUR WAY, REMOVE THE LOWER SPLASH SHIELD. ALSO REMOVE THIS LITTLE CANISTER AND MOVE IT OUT OF THE WAY.

3. USE A 14MM WRENCH TO TURN THE PULLEY NUT ON THE TOP AUTOMATIC TENSIONER COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. (DO NOT TURN CLOCKWISE, IF YOU TURN CLOCKWISE YOU WILL LOOSEN THE PULLEY AND THE WHOLE AUTO TENSIONER ASSEMBLY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.) AS YOU TURN COUNTER-CLOCKWISE LINE UP THE HOLDING BOSS (TWO HOLES) AND INSERT A 6MM ALLEN WRENCH TO LOCK THE TENSIONER.

4. REMOVE THE A/C, WATER PUMP, ALTERNATOR BELT .



5. ON THE BOTTOM TENSIONER YOU WILL USE THE HEXAGONAL PROTRUSION PART WITH YOUR SOCKET TO TURN COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. AFTER LINING UP THE HOLDING BOSS INSERT YOUR OTHER ALLEN WRENCH.

6. REMOVE THE POWER STEERING BELT.



7. INSTALL YOUR NEW BELT, MAKING SURE ALL RIBS AND GROOVES ARE ALIGNED.

8. USING YOUR WRENCH ON THE HEXAGONAL PROTRUSION TURN IT SLIGHTLY COUNTER-CLOCKWISE AND REMOVE THE ALLEN WRENCH WE USED TO LOCK THE TENSIONER IN PLACE.

9. BACK ON TOP WE ARE GOING TO INSTALL THE NEW A/C, WATER PUMP, AND ALTERNATOR BELT. INSTALL THE BELT MAKING SURE YOU GET ALL GROOVES, AND RIBS ALIGNED. I INSTALLED THE BELT AROUND EVERY PULLEY AND TENSIONER AND SLIGHTLY LEFT IT OFF THE TOP WATER PUMP PULLEY.

10. USING YOUR 14MM WRENCH TURN THE PULLEY COUNTER-CLOCK WISE AND PUSH THE BELT ONTO THE WATER PUMP PULLEY. WHEN THE BELT IS LINED UP PROPERLY YOU CAN REMOVE THE ALLEN WRENCH THAT IS USED FOR LOCKING THE TENSIONER.

11. ALL BELTS SHOULD BE ON, JUST GO OVER EVERYTHING ONCE MORE AND MAKE SURE ALL BELTS ARE ON THE PULLEYS CORRECTLY.

12. START YOUR CAR AND IF EVERYTHING RUNS GOOD, YOU ARE DONE. REINSTALL EVERYTHING YOU HAVE REMOVED AND THAT’S IT.

 
NP, not sure about the FX45's belt driven fan....Not sure if that changes the procedure.

The auto tensioner on the VK actually makes changing the belts on the 45's way easier than changing them on the 35's.
 
I was about to say...wonder what the fan changes. The dealer just changed out my drive belts under warranty so I won't have a chance to use this write up for a while anyway. =P
