Hi everyone,
I just picked up a 2003 FX35 for my daughter and am just starting to figure out how to fix its various problems. I'm sure I'll be posting on the Workshop Forum soon!
Dave

Exhaust Problem

The flange on the pipe from my rear muffler is deteriorated but the muffler is in good shape. Is there any simple repair or am I looking at a new muffler?
Thanks, Dave

Heat Shield Noise

The heat shields on the Y-pipe on my 2003 FX35 rattle. Is there anything I can do to quit them, and are they vital to keep on the Y-pipe?
Thanks, Dave

Any exhaust shop worth anything should be able to fix it. Look for a local place that specializes and stay away from the dealership on this one. They don't repair - only replace.

The fix could be as complex as cutting off the old flange and welding on a new one, or as simple as cleaning off the oxidation and patching. Either way it should be a fraction of the cost of a new muffler.

If you are looking to upgrade, there are tons of threads here about all kinds of exhausts. Use the search function and you should get more info than you care to read.

Not vital, but there for a reason. Same exhaust shop that fixes your flange should be able to tack weld them solid again. Simple for a shop with the right tools.

Hey Dave - welcome to the scene! FX is a great car and this forum is the best for tidbits of info. Good luck with the maintenance!

depends on the damge...if we can get pics we can tell you. it may be as simple as cutting the pipe and welding on a new flange....

as in your other thread, I can sell you my stock muffler thats in really good condition

you can buy my stock muffler from me off of my 2005 FX.....theres only around 25k miles on it and is in really good condition.

here's the link

https://www.infinitiscene.com/search/1/?q=vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=221

the price is $345 shipped but could go down depending on how much shipping costs.

for a new one the dealer charges around 900.

basically any aftermarkerket will be louder, so you may want to keep it stock.
