FX35 Driving RPM

I have an FX35 and and when driving at 55 my RPMs run around 2100 and at 65-70 it is upwards of 2500 therefor I get crappy gas mileage and am afraid I could bring damage to my transmission. Any thoughts on why my RPM are so high?
 
I understand that, but when driving 55 I should not be over 2000 rpm and at 65-70 I’m running 2500 or higher. What is the cause and how do I fix that?
 
You can put your AT in manual mode and watch the RPM as you go through the gears. Make sure you can finally engage 5th gear. It sounds like your AT may not be going into overdrive.
 
Ok I’ll give that a try. What causes it to not shift into overdrive and is it fixable?

Perhaps the valve body. Myself, I'd replace the fluid before I had any maintenance done to it. I use Amsoil Signature Series ATF.
