I am trying to decided on a exhaust for my FX35. I really want a HKS, but I found a Nismo that is very tempting.

1 What kind of exhaust do your FX35 have(type, single or dual pipe, pipe size (please only FX35s)
2 Is there some low end torque loss?
3 How loud is the in-cabin noise? (does your passengers complain?

thanks, I hope this thread will help others.
:iS:

Nismo FTW, I wish I could hear mine more... I usually roll down my windows (and have no music) so I can hear better.

No drone with the Nismo. I would choose that over HKS cuz the HKS is the same plumbing size as stock, so likely gains are evn smaller. Nismo will take you up to a 3" out, and at that size, there is no bottom end loss at all, but some extra flow on the top. It sounds killer and no one will complain. It is quite a bit louder at load on the outside . . but as long as you keep your cats, it'll be more than tolerable. You're here in SoCal . . why dont you hook up with someone so you can decide for yourself. If ever on West Side, you're welcome to hear mine.

thanks for the replies.

i am waiting on Will to chime in. Dave, I thought I read you posted that your kids were complaining about the noise. Do you think its wise to buy a used Nismo?

I thought the stock system was 2.25"

2.0" joint at the cats, 2.25" at the Y arms, 2.5" at the mid & y connection to the mid muffler and 2.25" after the mid pipe muffler.. It's a mix really.. Can't say 2.5", can't say 2.25".. I think HKS would open up the high end as close as Nismo but not sound as good as Nismo. I think 3.0" is a bit much (like my dual 2.5 inchers  ) BUT heck they sound good..

correct me if I'm wrong on the dimensions..

I dig the nismo - as for the noise level its not that much different than stock when your cruising. But @ WOT there is a difference. Performance wise, I may have a lost a tad off the line but its makes up for it at the top end.

I now have headers on mine so the noise level is pretty crazy.

Just remember that if you do get the Nismo you will need to get the G35 extension piece and then take it to a muffler place to have them extend the tips out. I can meet up with you this weekend (or if your goin to the HB meet) you can check it out.

thanks Will,

I should of listen to your exhaust when we had the meet with the Gs at Hooters. I might just do it and pick up the exhaust this week (its all the way in Santa Clarita!!). This weekend, wife and I are road tripping to LV to visit the inlaws.

that's where the Doc lives... but he's got a 45 (as I do too), so it won't sound the same... are you buying used?

yes I already told Dr2K about it, maybe if time permits I will have ice coffee with him. The exhaust is used, but looks in good condition.

Do you guys with the Nismo suggest getting better looking tips? since they need to be butchered anyways.

I LOVE my tips!!! What are you talking about!!??? Nismo pride here

I have 350z exhaust tips (still!) ... I agree with these guys, I've heard a lot of other exhaust on youtube but all I gotta say is .. NISMO be the best .. .. I also heard turbocad6's Stillen and it sounds pretty decent as well, its just a lot more money.

No complaints from any of my riders. Used? sure why not? As long as the Y is in good shape you should be fine. The hardware is so well built, it should outlast the rest of the car. If the deal is right, I say go for it.
Leave the Nismo Tips also. When it comes to modding the rear, I suggest you cut & paste the way I had it done at the ends, rather than chop at the straights. It'll look much cleaner.

Already wrote pretty much all I had to say in your PM Alan but +1 with what everyone else has said on the nismo.

so then the NISMO is much better than the Stillen?

Peeps will tell you that Stillen is a great exhaust, it has a true dual pipe setup and some people think it is to much, but with forced induction, it would be perfect. Also its a bit more expensive.
I believe people that have the Stillen love it, people who have the Nismo love it. So it comes down to choice and preference.
