So my current battery is about 5 years old and I was about to change it when the car died on me last night. I first thought it was the battery as this battery would drain out if I listened to radio for like 10 mins without the car running. So this morning I replaced the battery with a kirkland brand. Brand new battery and the right size and type for my fx and was recently placed on the shelf at Costoco. Here is the problem:

When I turn the ignition I get a single click and nothing after that. All the interior lights work headlights turn on no problem. Radio turns on with max volume so I know it's not the battery. When my car died with the old battery in there and I tried to start the car I had several clicking noise; typical noise for a car that has a drained battery but now I don't even get a few clicks, just a single click and dead silence. I'm thinking it's the starter am I correct?
Also if I have to buy a new/refurbished starter, would the starters for 350z/g35 fit on my fx? Thanks for the help guys.

try to get a jump, might be from the new battery. Also check your battery connections

Is it that easy to blow a fuse when switching the battery? I had the driver's side heated seat on at max and a few interior lights on when I tried to start the car again after the battery swap. The car was turned off when I changed the battery

Just an update. It was the starter / starter solenoid. The starter motor and solenoid is one unit.
I bought an used one from a local junk yard for $100 and the shop tested it before installing it and said it works great.
Now that I think about it again, I remember hearing a weird noise right after my car fired up two days in a row, about three times. It sounded like something dying and letting off gas well sort of. Anyways all fixed for under $200 including labour and the car starts without any problem now.

Glad you found the fix. How many miles on your 03?

Thanks man. I currently have 190,000 km (approx 120,000 miles). First time ever changing the starter on this vehicle. Although I would prefer not having to replace the starter for the entire life of the car, getting that much mileage on the original starter and solenoid is not too bad I think.

NOTE: all used FX (35/45/AWD) starters 03-08 are all interchangable (exception of FX35 RWD) but if you want starter from M35 or G35 you need to get the ones from M35X and G35X, the awd versions. Regular rear wheel drive ones won't fit. Also 350z is out of the question unless you have FX35 RWD, in which case you can also look at starters from g35 and m35 rear wheel drive models
