Hey everyone, I'm new to infinitiscene.com but I have a serious problem with my wife's FX35. ok I will start from the begining. a month ago her car idled funny as if it was misfiring and sure enough #5 cylinder misfire. I changed the coil pack and car ran perfectly. Two weeks later car idled funny again, I was thinking oh oh another coil pack? So I turned off the engine and tried restarting it and it started but a few seconds later the engine died and it failed to restart. Had it towed home because I thought that more than one coil pack burned out and that's why it won't start. So I ordered six new coils, bought brand new plugs and valve cover gasket. I had the alternator checked and it was fine, replaced the plugs, coils and gasket but car still doesn't start!!! and on top of that it burned one of the brand new coils!!!! What's wrong with my wife's FX? is it a ECM gone bad? and I tried starting the car again yesterday and the smell of another coil burning was in the air and sure enough it burned another coil!!! Please any suggestion? anything would help Thanks everyone!!! oh yah car is out of warranty:eek.:

I hate to tell you this, but sometimes having someone work on your car (you) that doesn't really know what there doing & just guessing can wind up costing more in the long run, changing things that aren't necessary & even damaging new parts... I'm guessing you don't want to pay anyone with the right skills & equipment to diagnose & repair your car? why? isn't your fx worth that at least? I'm all for DIY, BUT, only when you have a good grasp of the systems & procedures involved & the right equiptment to do the job without damaging other things, otherwise it can wind up being an expensive lesson & in the end your going to have to wind up paying anyway.... I'd recommend researching a good non dealer mechanic in your area & then letting a professional handle the repair... this def sounds like something that is beyond the scope of just figuring it out yourself...

another member recently had that problem, but his was most likely the coils, he hasn't reported back with what has been done since....

Take it to the dealer and get it diagnosed correctly. A local mechanic may not have the necessary tools to properly diagnose the problem.

I agree somethings you have to take to the dealer, they are expensive but they will get it done and you will have a loaner. with the coil packs burning up like that you are wasting money as you are doing a easter egging procedure to try and fix it, let the dealer or a mechanic that works on these cars handle that.
