FX specific grouding kit

now... if we make our own kit, does anyone think there will be major differences if we all ground the same points?

No difference, If you use the same grounding points and use a High Quality 4 Gauge wire.. You will be fine.

Here is one I did, you can alter it to your liking but it gives you a general idea and lengths. ///92

You can also add one to the transmission and one to the ecu.

Yep - this was one of the original threads I used for initial research.

In both this custom kit and also the "GroundingGear 10-wire performance" kit, there are common grounding points:

Battery to headlight grounds (on the strut towers), to the engine, plenum & Throttle body. These are the four the development kit uses, and so far at least all kits have these in common. Whenever possible, it's always best to ground directly to the negative battery terminal, but daisy chaining is good enough since the thick wires resistance is low.

TCU and ECU seem to be other common grounding points. Also transmission. So there's three more wires. Any others? Probably won't do all three of those - trying to keep the kit cost effective.

Not sure if a tranny grounding wire would improve shifting. might be the ECU ground that has a bigger impact. That's one of the things I'm trying to get people to talk about on here - which wires work and actually DO something.

But FYI a transmission shift kit or valve body upgrade would take care of that lag for ya...

yo jumbo when you do this can you make me one that is all red?!?!
like krayzie's grounding wires? if so then im DOWN!!!

here is a link that jeff posted up and i saw krayzies grounds

I would not count on a grounding kit getting rid of the shift lag. I would think the ECU processor speed isn't impacted by weak grounding, but maybe it is.

It's possible it'll help out with shift lag, but we won't know till we (somebody) tries.

The shift can only really addressed with the VB upgrade. With the grounding wire it makes the shifting seem smoother but the slight lag is still there.

So looking back through the thread, there are four or five peeps interested, including myself. I'm looking to finalize the list of wires, and this is what I have:

1. Throttle Body
2. Headlight ground 1
3. Headlight ground 2
4. Engine

5. lower plenum
6. Transmission

These grounding locations seem to be both the most common and the most benefit, according to people that have some type of grounding kit. I should mention that the grounding locations above are used to determine the wire length. You can use the kit any way you want - you don't HAVE to use these points. Connection to any existing grounding point on the car is totally up to you. There's probably a disclaimer in here somewhere - if you mess up the electrical system of the car, don't blame the wire kit. It would be the improper installation of that wire kit.

If somebody wants a particular grounding point, we can measure and see if the length is close to an existing wire already in the kit. I plan on moving forward with this list - taking measurements over the next week or so.

Nothing up front is needed. Once we get the lengths and make the kits, we'll get payment and shipping info for anybody interested. Don't worry about it till then. The guy building the kits said he'd drop the price if we could get a group buy of ten, so after another couple weeks we'll see how close we are on this thread.

Looking forward to this!
