fx blew up this past week

looked like a stock car engine letting go at 180mph..........:bomb:


had 108K on it. motor started using copius amounts of oil around the 100K mark. what's funny is i was on the way to the dealership to check out a slight knocking sound that developed the day before. never made it to the shop. it's hard to believe a vq would blow like that with only 108K miles on it. my 95 maxima with the vq30 had 164K on it when it was totalled and it hardly used a drop between oil changes.

i've had this car since new, all maintenance and i thought in great shape. however around 100K the engine started consuming oil although i never really saw it smoke or leave oil on the ground. eventually there was a slight tick, then a slight knock. i was on the way to the dealer when it let go.

dealer found me a used engine for $2750. will charge about another $2k to install. i don't know what let go, but i suspect it was a dropped valve. i was looking into building a motor but decided to go the cheap route.
