Hey,
I am actually interested in putting a new (used) engine into my '03 FX. The existing one has this ticking sounds, its from the valves, I showed it few mechanics they told me that there is no solution to this problem.

I also though about trading it and getting another but not sure if I would get good value in return.

So, I think my only option right now is to get the engine replaced. If you guys know any place from where I can get another engine to replace my existing one with please let me know. Or may be even if you can suggest anything else to get this problem fixed I would really appreciate.

Thanks

im not good with cars but you should consider how much you would get during the trade if you did it. Also take into consideration how much it would cost you to
purchase the engine and then how much it would cost to get it installed.

however if your going to replace the engine maybe you can now turn it into an upgrade maybe you can even have a 2nd generation fx engine or an fx45 engine to install, im not really sure if that would work but just a suggestion.

thanks for replying,
I actually got a quote from Infiniti, it was for $16,000 installed. And then I asked the mechanic at Nissan, he said that I can probably find an engine for 1500 and he will charge me $600 to install it. But I have been looking for few days, I have not been able to find a used engine. Do you know any place from where I can get a used engine?
I am also not sure if the next generation would fit into the first generation. But I can find that out easily. By biggest concern right now if finding a engine.

Thanks for helping.

i doubt that you're going to get a good price for a trade in with an engine like that, unless you're able to make it disappear for a few days..:wink (2):
swapping the engine sounds more appropriate, i wonder if you could fit a second gen FX engine, that would be awesome. about time you started visiting the junkyard more often.

i just typed infiniti engine and websites came up like this one
http://www.everdrive.com/ads/admode...ttype=Engine&gclid=CJOptdCd2KMCFUmA5QodV1g7vQ

give it a try or maybe go to your local yunkyard and maybe they can help you find an engine.

or try this site which is just suggestion

search for what your looking for on car-part.com you should be able to find many of these DE engines really, search for the lowest mileage one you can find if your going the used route & with an older engine like this it would be ideal if you could find a place that has it still in the car so you can see & hear it running...

putting the new fx engine into the old is not too practical, it can possibly be done but it is not straight forward at all & most mechanics would not even have any hope at all of even being able to do it...

yea trading the car won't be a good idea right now, I am going to try and find an engine from one of these websites and hopefully find something.

Thanks for helping guys, I really appreciate it.

I had a slight knocking sound, which resulted in a short block swap and rebuilt heads.

>> If it's just a ticking sound, you probably need a valve adjustment. How many miles on the engine?

Yes, it is just a ticking sound, it has 150,000 kms on it.

there is no adjustment. you would need to replace the lifters as well as the cams at least, it's an involved & costly process & the logic in doing that on a higher mileage motor to begin with it doesn't make all that much sense... safer to replace the motor as a whole
