Hello all, this forum has been very helpful with many fixes and a couple upgrades for my 04 FX35, thanks to all who have posted information. I'm hoping to diagnose and fix a noise inside the cabin before we travel for Thanksgiving. The car has about 145k miles.
When the FX is idling, you can hear a thrumming sound inside the cabin. It's not a high pitched sound, but more middle or low pitch, a 'PHBBBBBBBBBBBB' kind of thing. I love trying to describe sounds...ugh. My ears tell me it's been getting louder over the last few months. I'd like to think it's the fuel pump but I don't specifically hear it coming from the rear. It is not apparent outside the car, or in the engine bay when the hood is open. My a/c compressor and cabin fan are noisy, but this is not related to that. When I increase RPM in park I don't hear the sound increase in conjunction with engine speed-it may get a bit louder but as engine and exhaust noise rise it becomes harder to pick up.
Also, it's been colder the last few nights. When I started the car in the AM on a cold (below 35F and the car had been sitting for about 36 hours) morning, the sound was not apparent immediately, but came back when I pulled into the store about a minute later.
All this makes me think fuel pump, but the sounds I'm hearing don't match what others have heard as fuel pumps died. If anyone has thoughts, information, or suggestions I would love to hear them.
