From '07 FX35 to FX37?

Hi there,

I am currently sorting out some corrosion issues with our '07 FX35. While fixing the problems, we are now considering the upgrade to FX37. I already posted the question on the other thread, but perhaps this is the better place to ask.

Overall the FX35 is in a nice shape. Only around 55k miles, BC Racing coilovers, FX50 Akebono brakes + plenum spacer. Drives well, interior nice and tidy. The underbody is the only major concern at the moment. After the upgrades, perhaps the only other drawback during our ownership has been the gas mileage in this local bad stop&go traffic - on longer trips it is ok.

We are tempted by the newer 37S and they also sell here a diesel version in Europe, the 30d. From the gas mileage perspective the diesel would make a lot of sense...but I have bad experience from buying cars that "made a lot of sense". We did test drive the 50S too, but for the main family transport we do not need the performance (nor the worse gas mileage).

I guess that mostly thanks to the better gearbox, the 37S is quite a bit faster than the 35? How about gas mileage, a little better as well?

It would be interesting to hear what people who made the move from 35 to 37 have to say in general, what were the biggest differences?

Now it is a good time to evaluate the options!

This is an old thread, but im curious to know what you decided on? One thing i've noticed about my* 37 is that the manual gear box is a little laggy.... I dont like it, nor does my dad. The gas does alright I suppose. Drove from Chicago to the far west side of Wisconsin all the way through and it didnt even touch the halfway mark. Interested to see what you decided on.

I had a 2006 FX35 that averaged 16.x mpg over its life.
I now have a QX70S 3.7 that is so far averaging 16.x mpg.
It's essentially the same engine, in the same package. You get a little more power (does not help the gas) but the 7AT brings it back to square 1.
It is a little quicker than the older model, but not by much. It's sporty, but not fast. The 7AT is smooth, but the software loves to keep the revs in the 1500 rpm range which is good for gas, but lame for performance. The paddles are a must just to get a little pep out of it.

Good luck! Both are great cars. If you had no issued with the 2007, I would say a switch up isn't worth it (I prefer the styling of the first gen, and the tech isn't that much better on the new ones).

*Oops, old thread but leaving my reply in case it helps someone else.
