Since the emergence of the frameless type wiper blades, I have stopped using the OEM conventional type wiper blades. Not so much for its function but mostly aesthetics since I like the cleaner look of frameless blades whilst hating the skeleton frames of conventional wiper blades. Though IMO the OEM conventional blades still presents as the best practical functionality for our 1st gens as it is specifically designed for the FX bold windshield curves.
I have used but was never happy with multiple types of wiper blades from highly rated brands but still could not find the right one that provides the best aesthetics and function. The problem with Bosch Icon, Rain-X, Michelin stealth, among others is that their mounting points to the wiper arm is located on top of the midsection of the wiper blades. When mounted, the wiper arm will bulge from the added height on an elevated position. Since the 1st gen's windshield washer nozzles are attached to the wiper arms, I find it most irritating that the fluid spray will overshoot the glass surface every time I use the windshield washer spray especially on the passenger side. Other than covertly and mischievously shooting a jet of washer fluid to irritating drivers that uses their cell phones while driving, this has been one of my peeves on top mounted frameless wiper blades.
Lately, I came across the Trico side mounted frameless wiper blades. I thought this was the perfect fit for our 1st gen. Till I found its shortcomings when I started using them. Lo and behold, these blades are noisy as hell and the squealing galore begins plus the tip of the driver's side wiper blades does not make full contact with the glass leaving uneven streaks due to our vehicles pronounced windshield curvatures around the corners.
