Last year I purchased a 2012 QX56 for my wife to replace her Toyota Sequoia which replaced her Yukon XL. As you can see she likes the big SUVs. While we really enjoy this luxury vehicle, we purchased it with some "pre-existing" headaches which did not come up until after the purchase. It is my hope this forum can help me to resolve some of these issues such as paint peeling on the roof and tailgate, drivers side power mirror motor actuator whirring and whirring and the compressor for the rear leveling system.
The peeling paint appears to be a common problem for the 2011 to 2012 model year. There is a class action law suit in Michigan. Based on this I recently took the vehicle to the local Infiniti dealer where they took pictures and said they would get back to me. It has been almost a month now and so far nothing.
The driver's side power mirror does not fold, instead the motor just whirrs and whirrs after the vehicle is turned on which is extremely annoying! The mirror has to be pushed back and forth to get the noise to stop. Apparently this is also a common defect for the 2011 to 2012 model year. I have unplugged the connector to the switch which now renders most of the power mirror features useless.
Since purchasing I have replaced the rear air system leveling compressor twice in 18 month. Is this another problem area?
All that said, we really like the vehicle apart from the crazy bad gas mileage. Does the gas mileage get better in the most recent QX80s? If so I would trade in.
