Finally Done...Driver's Side Wiring Harness Tucked

Saw this on the G and Z forums and I thought it would be nice to clean up the engine bay. My current project is to clean up the engine and I have a lot of parts coming in so I thought I'd get it ready. The driver's side harness should be the easiest, so I thought I'd start there first. Thought it would be a 2 hour job. Ended up taking 6 hours because the FX isn't quite like a G sedan or coupe, it's a hybrid of both and all the wires have to be extended whereas they don't.

How it looks normally


Removed the master cylinder cover where the wires start and unplugged everything. Broke the harness up some to get more slack. This shows the wires stuffed into the area before I pulled them through the fender.


The hole it goes through in the fender. It's below the ABS block and I had to enlarge it slightly (pic shows before drilling).


Extension for the ground wires.


All of the wires extended, this was before I tied them up and wrapped them.


All done.


Will do the passenger side soon. More wires, but now I know what to do. Will still probably take 3-4 hours. Someday I'll do the main harness, but for now I bought a RareJDM cover.

Thanks. The cutting isnt too bad. Just do one wire at a time so you dont mess up. More tedious than anything. Plus I figured its just headlight, fogljght, and an o2 sensor. Nothing bad if I mess up.

Just to note I have finally did manage to do this. Not to discredit Shadow, but being a smartass I took it all apart one day just to see if I could get around extending the wires, and he is absolutely correct there is no way in hell you could get enough slack. Atleast not with this routing (which is pretty much the only possible routing and also the best).

It took a LONG time to cut everything apart and put extensions on every wire, all the while making sure nothing gets messed up. Overall I would not recommend anyone attempt this unless they are absolutely certain they know what they are getting themselves into and have the time, tools, and skills to pull it off.

EDIT: Much like shadow I still have to do the passenger side, but I am in no rush to do so.

I am getting another shop to professionally tuck my harness wire, there is no way in hell i trust myself to pull apart those two massive looms.

Geat Work Shadow.....i never got around to do this or do some research on it. Quick question ( Keep in mind i'm not that of a electrical expert too ) but why do you have several (ground) wires beginning and running towards the same single connector. Could's you have used just 1 big wire...?? Why you had to drill a hole as there already is a hole there...??

I'm deff doing this, already forwarded this thread to my "electrical" guy LOL


P.s: any updates on the other side as i have everything apart now so should help give me an idea ;-)

I may do the passenger side next month, it's warm again and every time I pop the hood to look at something, it's starting to bother me. As for the ground wires, you can use one big wire. I just didn't have any leftover stereo power wire like an 8 gauge or 4 gauge. Didn't feel like buying more for this, so I just matched up the 6 ground wires on the harness with 6 wires.

I had to drill the hole out bigger because there is no way to get all the plugs through the OEM sized hole. I tried for over an hour, but one of the plugs is really big and no matter how you angle it, it will not pass through.
