Hi Guys,
i just noticed recently that the below is happening on the car. car was bought brand new with 14 mls on it and now on 6000mls, haven't removed the bumper or fiddled with the lights or anything around that area.
you are looking at the inner corner of the driver side headlights.
am i the only one? or i haven't searched hard enough
will dealer do something about it?

That sucks... That usually happens when you take your car and have it painted at some shop for $500... just spray the whole car without removing any lights, trim etc.. it ends up flaking like this.. definitely need to take it for warranty.

I'm almost convinced it was painted after the fact....I think cars can still be sold as new but if something was kicked or something else, I think dealerships, etc are allowed to paint within a certain amount and call it new. It is very very hard to believe it came out of factory like that regardless of what dealer says.

^ i just hope they don't give me the run around
i will be trading/selling the car around mid of 2012 and hope i won't get the blow on that defect.

Out of college I worked at a body shop that did repairs exclusively for the port of Tacoma. We handled all the damage done to cars getting in, during shipment and getting off the cargo ships. It was amazing how many dings dents and nasty stuff went down. More amazing was the amount of brand new cars that went out with mud or aftermarket paint on them. I think it happens all the time....they should honor the repair.

ok that is definitely not factory paint job.. dealer probably got local "pros" to come in and paint it.. then again i might be wrong

100% not factory unless the technician at the factory decided to have some fun that day and didn't have the machines handle it.

++1111 def not factory. I'd go to the dealer and see what they can do.
Crazy thing is my parents body shop have a contract with the rail yard in Spencer that unloads all the brand new Toyota's for this area. We get like 2-5 a week that get banged up when everyone takes them off the train or not securing them down well. Mainly need new bumpers, grills & headlights. But when we replace the parts its with 100% factory Toyota parts. Sometimes we can get away with buffing out some scratches.
Sad to see all them go out knowing they've already been in an accident and their selling them as brand new..

then go and get it painted at a bodyshop, without anyone knowing about it, when it
comes time to trade, it wont be in the dealers service records and you will be safe

Not to add any more angst to your situation, but you probably got fuc-d by the dealer you purchased from and I sort of agree with Dracula above - the bumper has definitely been repainted/touched up and clearly the dealer isn't going to admit they sold the car to you like this. I would take it to a local body shop you trust and have the entire bumper removed and properly repainted - that's the only way to fix this correctly. Will probably cost you several hundred dollars but will prevent loss of more than that in trade-in/turn-in value.

Dealer should cover this because it's still under the factory paint warranty, prob got re-shot for some minor shipping damage. Don't stress, but a hassle to make it right never the less.
