Exterior Trim Types?

Hello everyone,

Hoping to get some insight on the various exterior trim types that appear to be available for the 09+ FX/QX70 models. Referring particularly to the trim found on the side vents, along the side skirts, and the rear hatch.

From what I've found thus far, there are at least 4 different options available here, depending on vehicle year and trim:

1. Chrome - this is the standard trim on non-sport models



2. Dark Chrome - slightly darker than the standard chrome trim. This trim was available on some year model Sport models, such as mine shown here



3. Hyper Black Chrome - darker than the dark chrome, but not black. Also appears to have been available on later year Sport models.



4. Black - trim appears to be straight black. Available on certain year Sport models.



So I ran across the hyper black chrome trim in person and think it looks really sharp on black models. I figured I would start hunting around the internet for prices, but I don't even know where to begin with the various part numbers. Of course, the sites don't include pictures of the trims or give designations other than 'Sport' or 'non-Sport.' Wondering if anyone has any insight on which trims were available with specific years/models?

I like the black trim. But I also can’t find particular parts for all of them. However if might be cheaper to pay come one to vinyl wrap those pieces then to purchase brand new parts.

Very true. I'm not up to date with current vinyl technology, but do they make a wrap that looks like the Hyper Black Chrome finish?

I’m not sure about that specific color, But does not hurt to check at a place that does it.

Chrome is base trim
black chrome/dark chrome is sport trim
black is S-design trim in EU but in US I think it is just an option on Sport models to have the black trim.

I have looked into wrapping the chrome with tinted clear or a black but never got around to it.

I like the contrasting look also. All black blends in too much. I wrapped the outside of my grill gloss black and the slats in carbon fiber. It’s not as nice as the 2017 grill but giving it a shot.

I am going to see how carbon fiber gloss wrap looks on the side vents next.

Here is how the gloss cf wrap looks on the side fender vents. Not sure yet if I will use the rest on the sides.

Not bad! I think it turned out rather well. I do think you will need to also wrap the sides to complete the look. Too many contrasting trims otherwise (black, carbon fiber, chrome, etc).

I agree, just trying to decide if I want to do it in gloss black or CF. I am not sure I like the CF or not yet. I don't know if it really goes with the rest of the car and if I wrap all of the chrome it will really stand out. Gloss Black may be the way to go or a more subtle black cf without the gloss.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Anyone can point me in the right direction on instructional videos or writeups on how to DIY wrap the chrome fender vents? Am looking to wrap them matte black. Thanks.
