Extended Warranty

Hi All,

I have an 09 FX50 with about 110k miles on it. I am thinking of getting an extended warranty for about $2k that covers the engine, trans, drive train, starter alternator windows and a few other thinks for an additional 5 years 75k miles.

as these cars get up there in age are their issues that arise? I have had to replace alternators and wheel bearings on a few other vehicles so that is why I a looking at this.

what are your thoughts, is it worth it or have these cars not had many issues as they run into the 150k miles area?

I have a 2005 fx35 getting up there in miles, 169xxx. I've had it for a couple of years with very very minimal repairs. The biggest problem I've had with mine was wheel bearings, I've changed 3 of them already and have had to change one of them already again. Don't know if the newer ones have problems there or not. But my experience was very good so far....
 
$2K is a very reasonable. Is this from a third party or Infiniti? If is from a third party, I would read carefully on conditions on getting repairs done thru the warranty. I had a bad experience with a third party extended warranty years ago that wasoffered to me at the dealership. PIA to get "authorization" to get the repair done thru it. Car ended up seating in dealership service center waiting for approval.

Can I ask what the cost was for the wheel bearings. I had the same problem on my 04 FX 35 but it was covered under warranty. any one know if wheel bearings are still an issue on the 2nd gen?

Ya, the front wheel bearing I paid around $160 dollars and the rear was $116 then u have to press it into the hub yet... front bearings comes with complete assembly... i installed them myself so price is without installation... dealer wanted 699 to do the front...
 
$2,000 for 5 more years sounds like a good deal to me, as long as it is extended factory warranty.
 
Thanks for the input. I wound up getting it. We will see how useful it is. Kind of crazy to think things will be covered until 212k miles. it is not factory, its from a 3rd party...

generally speaking after 100k miles if the car has not been cared for, this is when they will start to show. I usually lean towards warranty coverage if it makes sense (if you are not a mechanic) and you can afford it.

No real specific 'issues' that are a ticking timebomb like other cars. We have FX on this site with 250k+_ miles

Read the fine print, double check and go over the Term/Word(s), Definition(s); what the insurance company “thinks” the term, word, and or part title described actually is.
I recently picked up our FX35 and went through our Credit Union for a car loan (Great Group). A little bit later we had an issue, so I called the insurance (warranty) folks and it took about a week, to a week and a half of arguing the title of a part. During our calls, I could hear the frustration of our credit union representative’s voice (who happens to be a car guy) as he followed up with me about the meetings he and his supervisor had with the insurance company. The credit union folks both agreed what the part was and that it is coved.
The frustration from the credit union representative was because he said, “Clearly I’m talking to people who are in no way Car People. These are people who have no idea how to open a hood let alone work under one”.
. . . End result, NOT COVERD.
It's getting taken care of, but not by my "Extended Vehicle Warranty".
