Hey guys-

Bought a '08 FX35 with 70k miles and although it got an A+ from the mechanic, I'm always scared so I want to look into extended warranties.

Any recommendations that are popular in this forum? Did a search but found various ones.

How is the reliability record on this car?

I have a 2005 fx35 with 108.3## mile on it and I must say it's a very reliable suv with looks. only one thing that piss me off about it is the dashboard they come with a manufacture defects they bubble up. and if your warranty runs out the dealers are assholes. thats it. she stell runs and I'm handle like a champion. as long as you take care of her she will take care of you .

I'm a newbie when it comes to luxury cars. I drove a Jeep and Hyundai for 10 years. What kind of normal maintenance do you perform outside of synth oil changes, fluids, etc.?

And I saw a 2003 FX45 where I bought my car and noticed those bubbles! Crazy. I'm getting an internal/external "shielding" done next week on my car that comes with a warranty against defects.

to be hones that about it all you have to do is the fluids change on time spark plug change and filter replacement. And dont for get preventive maintenance. if you hear are see some thing thats not right take care of it. keep in mind the langer you wait some time the more it can cast to fix.

and for you FX45NATE all you can do is remove and replace it but make sure you get the upgrade dashboard.

I dont think with a 2008 he has to worry about the dash problem, as my 2008 is perfect still.

I think they fixed this problem in the later cars.

I was told by the Infiniti warranty department that the update dash was not release until 2010.

?? There was a new FX in 2009, what they updated parts for an old car?

Either way he has an 8 year warranty on the dash for bubbling. So his 2008 is good until 2016.

If he decides to get extended warranty it should not be based on his dash board bubbling.

Honestly an extended warranty may not be necessary. It's an '08 so it's already 5 years old. An extended warranty is what $2-3K? That's like 10% of the price of your car. Just set the money aside for emergency repairs. It's a VQ35 so the parts are common and repairs are reasonable, most of the parts are shared with G's and Z's mechanically. It's not like a BMW where one thing goes wrong and you're out $3K (I have a BMW and I have an extended warranty on it).

And your dash is covered until 2016 as they said since they extended it to 8 years. Since you're up in IL, it's 50/50 on whether or not your dash will bubble. It's a heat thing, my '07 had it happen and I live in GA. I looked at an '08 with horrible bubbling before I bought mine (it was from Miami). So it can happen to '08's as well. The replacement dash is different than your OEM one, the finish is different, it is more matte. I personally think the original one looks better, so I hope yours never has to be replaced. They did update the part to fix the bubbling issue and this was done in '10 (at least that's when they issued the new extended warranty on it). Before that, they just replaced the dash with one that would sometimes bubble again. When I had mine done, the service department said they were glad to have the new one since they had replaced a couple twice already under factory warranties and goodwill.

I also bought a '08 FX35 CPO 3 years ago. just over a year later I needed to replace the battery. well that's fine. I gave them that. It drove fine until last year. all the lights on the dash board start lit up when i drive. brake light, abs, vdc... u name it. they were on and off once in a while. the car still drove fine so i let it like this for a few months. i went on differnt forums for answer. i tried differnt things suggested by other members who had simular problem. but nothing worked. eventually before the next inspection i took it to the dealer. found out 2 sensors were out. one of them is abs. i think the abs sensor cost $1300 just the part alone. i think w/ the labor it would have cost me $2k to replace the sensors. thank god my car was still under warrenty. then last month i went for another sensor problem. they couldnt find out what happened but they determine one of the metering sensors wasn't giving them reading. so they replace it and it would have cost $350. both times i only paid $50 for deductible. so if u asked me if its worth it for extended warrenty i will say yea. with all the electrionic sensor component in all the new cars nowaday, an extended warrenty is not a bad choice to protect ur wallet. sometimes u can find good deal for manufacturer warrenty. i am gonna extend my warrenty this wk. my car is at almost 50k now. last time i checked it would cost me abt $1200 for another 2 yrs. just $1200 i will take it. the freaking sensor already top that. of cos no one wants the car has any expensive problem but u never know. just like insurance, u never wanna use but u would wanna have it when u need it.
