Engine Oil light came on prematurely: dark brown oil

So I just had an oil change about 2000 miles ago and used Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30. Today, my change oil light came on today even with my maintenance presets set at 5000 miles. It was only at about 2000.

I checked the levels and it was fine, but the oil was very brown.


Anyone ever have this problem? Should i just get another oil change?
 
Did the maintenance reminder warning go off or some other engine oil light?

The maintenance reminder goes off whenever it was last reset... your dealer should be resetting the maintenance reminder where your nav is as well as where your odometer is. Both will go off after a certain amount of miles based on what that interval was originally set for. Also, there are multiple reminders to set and depends on what they are named...so maybe he reset the first 2 reminders, but the other reminder was never reset and after 20k miles (just making up a number), it goes off.

Give us more info and we can help you out more. But if you have only gone 2,000 miles on mobil 1 synthetic, you should be able to go many more miles...at least past 6,000 miles depending on oil filter used.
 
Dealer probably forgot to reset the oil light. You can't just assume the oil is dirty by looking at it. I get my oil changed and the next day it's already dark brown. It means nothing. Just make sure the oil level is good on the dipstick.
 
it is the regular maintenance light. I didn't know both had to be reset, and that's probably what it is.

fluid level is dead middle of the Low and High on the dipstick.
