On my way home form work In these freezing temperatures yesterday, the FX threw an error light.
I scanned it this morning and got back an error code of P0106 -

P0106 - MAP/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem

I've googled this and not exactly sure how to understand it.
So I'm looking to see if anyone here understands or could give some advice on how to troubleshoot it.

That crappy news is my warranty expired 24 days ago.. :(

I appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Thanks

Sorry to hear this.

Unfortunately you can't do anything about this code yourself. I've seen this before and it's a software glitch. The dealer will fix this issue by installing a software update on the ECU. Don't delete the code. Let the dealer handle it so the ECU can be updated.

Could be a few things. The MAP sensor is finding irregularities in pressure readings going into the intake manifold. One of the following may be happening:

1. The connection to the sensor may be bad; go check to see if the harness is loose, corrosion, etc.
2. You may have possible air leaks in the air ducts, vacuum hoses, etc. Unlikely but doesn't hurt to look.
3. The MAP sensor went out.

More than likely the MAP sensor went out with the cold. I just had a MAF sensor go out myself. It is at least easy to fix, it sits on top of the intake manifold almost in the middle. Take the engine cover off and see on the diagram below, it is #20 and I have highlighted it for you. You can pick one up at the dealership or online for like $140-$150 or I saw RockAuto has one by Hitachi for like $83.

Good Luck!

Faulty ECU is one of the listed possibilities when I googled the code, so like Aaron said let the dealer handle it.

Hopefully it's just your bumper to bumper warranty that just expired. I think this would be covered by your powertrain warranty. 6 years and 70K miles.

You make a good point.. My 50 is just over 4 years old and under 40K miles.. I'll ask about if the powertrain warranty covers this type of work. :)

It controls the powertrain so it would make sense that it is covered. Let us know how this plays out.

If it is indeed a software glitch with the ECU they should cover it regardless as a defect I would think, especially if it just needs a reflash which is a pretty simple job.

You have to love dealers.... This was their reply.

"I’m cannot reassure you that this would be covered under warranty until one of my trained technicians have a look at your vehicle.
To have a look at you vehicle is will be $112.00 plus tax. If the repair is covered under warranty, there will be no charge to you."

Do I roll the dice and goto the dealer? Does anyone have successful experience with powertrain warranty?

The love and hate relationship we have with our dealers.. lol

Tough one. As I look through the warranty booklet I don't see any of the electrical engine controls listed under the power train warranty. I do, however, see them listed under the "federal vehicle emissions control warranty", but, that portion of the warranty only goes to 4 years and 60K miles.

If you have a good Infiniti service department, I'd go in and get them to diagnose. Then check prices for repair or consider DIY.

I am back from the dealer today.....

I left the dealer in the morning, having signed that it will cost $112 to run a diagnostic test. I felt that it was going to be a $300-$400 day.

Basically the dealer was able to confirm the error code, and ran diagnostics on the MAP sensor. They said it passed every test twice.
The service manager called me and said "There is nothing wrong with your FX, come pick it up!". In my mind I was thinking $112 you to tell me this. WTF...
BTW - the service was not covered under warranty.

Long story short, the dealer comped the diagnostic test (I didn't even ask or complain), gave me my key and said if the error comes back, they'll replace the sensor.
She said "They valued my business..." was the reason why it was free.

No reason to complain right! ;)

Am I suppose to buy a lottery ticket now?

401 / Dixie Infiniti, in Mississauga just outside of Toronto.

I personally had mixed reviews about their service and how I was treated there (but this sorta changed that). Thankfully I don't visit often. :)
