Engine hesitation at ~4750rpm when WOT from 4,000 to redline

I have a question about an engine hesitation I'm feeling in an '06 FX35 AWD.

When going WOT at ~30mph the car tries to accelerate in the current high gear for a sec, then downshifts. When it downshifts the RPMs pull from 4,000rpm to 6,500 rpm. At about ~4,750 rpm the engine has a slight hesitation. During that hesitation the tach seems to pause and then 'jump' forward a bit and suddenly appears on the other side of ~5,100 rpm and pulls cleanly to redline where it executes the shift.

This is a prospective car I'm looking at buying, so engine condition is a concern after noticing this.

Is there any existing VQ35DE issue that has this symptom? Any other thoughts?

How many thousand miles do you have and have you changed your tranny fluid?

81k miles. I don't think the fluid has been changed. The car doesn't have any service history, but was taken to a dealer for the $125 multipoint inspection and no notes were made about the fluid level being off.

What are you thinking, tranny fluid? If its topped off maybe a flush is in order.......
