A while back, an engine light came up and I scanned it with my phone.
The code said p0455 (gross leak), I did a quick 'web lookup' and it stated:
This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected
Possible Causes were:
- Missing or loose fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks
- EVAP system hose leaking
- Fuel tank leaking
Searching on the forum, nobody had the problem so I went over to see if other Infiniti/Nissan vehicles had this same problem.
According a Infiniti G forum, this is a very common engine light code thrown by either the gas cap or control valve.
1. Fuel filler cap
I ordered an OEM cap to replace the one I had already to see if that was the problem.
~500 miles later, the engine light came back on!
I kept the cap anyway, as it wasn't expensive and it would prevent problems in the future.
2. Vent Control Valve
I searched Infinitipartsusa.com for the part number of the control valve I would have to replace.
Unfortunately, they discontinued the product and now have an updated part, according to the customer service representative I had to call.
OEM (old) Control Valve: 14935-AM60B
OEM (NEW) Control Valve: 14935-JF00B.. there is a 14935-JF00A, but JF00B is the latest part according to the representative.
Installation only took me ~45 minutes? I could probably do the process in half an hour, now.

The Control Valve is located on the rear passenger side behind the tire.
Use a tool to remove the plastic clips that holds the plastic panel.
Once the panel is removed, you should see the Charcoal canister held by metal braces.
Just remove several 10mm bolts and the Canister should come down.
The Valve should be connected to the Canister, you unplug its electrical connection and twist it out of the canister.
Installation is just reverse. It's simple, but somewhat of a tight fit IF you have big hands.
The service manual says to replace the o-ring, but a new o-ring came with the control valve I purchased from eBay.
Results:
Within the first 3 fill ups.. the pump would stop prematurely and I would have to depress the pump to keep pouring gas in the fuel tank.
Nonetheless, It's been ~5500 miles and my check engine light has NOT come back. So, I'm going to assume the problem is fixed!
Below is the difference between the old valve and the updated valve. You can definitely see how more durable the new valve looks
