Engine Bay

Have a separate thread on this but technically, it IS in the engine bay so I thought I'd throw it up here...

When swapping out the motor mounts I did a heat wrap on the exhaust manifold. This is the driver side - the passenger side is tough to get a good shot.

I'll be checking the computers for MPG improvement. Still on the same tank of gas since install. Traveling for work, so I'll be burning my first tank of gas after my return.

Woke up on a mission this morning - finally installed the totally revamped oil catch, ala ARC's design. I now have both valve covers tied together into a T-fitting, the third leg of which goes into the oil catch. The ARC design doesn't use a T - they just connect both valve covers to the catch can. Since I have only one inlet, I had to branch both hoses in to the single inlet. There's a little more hose clutter now because of the oil catch so I might try to move things around again. But I did techflex all the hoses, so they look good, at least.

First was getting the can mounted, vertical where it didn't interfere with anything else. I used the spot I had tried once before after failing to mount the can in the back left of the engine bay. So I used two slotted L brackets that allowed me to angle the can so it was clear of interference. Sorry for the focus in the picture:

As it turns out, the hose that connects the driver side valve cover (PCV) to the intake tube is a bigger diameter than the the passenger side valve cover (PCV) which is connected to the lower plenum. I hadn't realized this when I cut new hoses. I bought only one size, so I was a little surprised to take off the Strut tower brace, intake tube, disconnect and remove the throttle body and find the hoses I had on hand wouldn't work.

The only other larger hose I had was from my radiator - when I replaced my coolant hoses with the Samco hoses, I kept the OEM hoses that were not damaged. The smallest of the OEM hoses happens to fit perfectly to the PCV on the driver side (directly under the throttle body), route behind the plenum and end right where I needed it to on the passenger side - totally by luck. I hose clamped it to a T fitting along with the passenger side PCV, then to the inlet of the can.

The old radiator hose, now techflex'd and routed:

and the T fitting:

Finally I decided to use the the lower plenum as the suction source, because it was closer.

That meant that I had to plug the inlet on the intake tube, which I did with a bit of hose, plug & clamp. It's about an inch longer than it needs to be. I'll probably trim it at some point.

Everything is working fine and I expect to empty the catch can in about a week. Won't have more than a short trickle, but I should see that it's working.

Latest addition to the engine bay is the Saikou oil catch. More detail in the Jumbo Oil catch thread:

Here's the installed can on the passenger side strut tower:

Powdercoating some of the brackets/accesories and intake pipes can help to clean up the engine bay alot. Looking good pick a color scheme and stick with it too many scheme can look tacky imo.

Polished Throttle Body

I guess my EB thread needs a lil update since I took a couple photos. I installed a polished throttle body last night. Looks nice!

Definitely need to wipe down all the hoses. It's pollen time of the year...

Polish up that plenum, that should keep you busy for a while. Not that it's too difficult, but I saw a pretty good write up about it on my350z a while ago...

Any shots of the grounding kit reattached to the TB? I was wondering where to attach that.

What you see there is actually a painted plenum - I did an engine enamel on it while having it broken down for cleaning. Depending on the piping for the turbo system, I might try to match, or go with a polished plenum...

Shhh! :frown:

I'll harass my brother tomorrow for ya man... sorry :tonguey:

No prob - I've got lots going on so still no rush!

Well, my engine bay looks a little different right now, lol. Here it is as of yesterday. This photo was taken from under the car, looking up into the bay.
