ecu flash and chips

I got a brand new UTEC for about $550, and a figure thrown out there for flashing was somethin like $900. To me that seems pretty steep for flashing the ECU and I'd be more than happy to stay with UTEC.

I'll update when I find out more.

$900 is pretty steep for just a flash. Same price as my GIAC flash on my Cayman S for 10-15 chp.

The key question is, what are the proven gains for that $900 flash? I don't mind paying that for 15-20 chp.

Okay I did a little bit of research... my bro is not sure what it was called but he thought it was EcuTek. However, there's a new flash software from UpRev called Osiris. It comes in 3 different options, one of them is the actual flash software with licensing for 1 flash. What that means is you can flash 1 vehicle with this license as many times as you need. It works off of the stock cruise control, which still remains functionable, and you can have up to 5 maps with a valet mode, it has control of speed limit removal and modify the rev limit (or remove it ). The basic version would be a simple flash for around $400-500. There's some intermediate version as well. Oh and the intermediate and the license version includes CIPHER  ($300 data-logger thang)

Great info! thank you so much! i will look into it

I talked to UpRev a while ago since I already have the Cipher to see if they supported my ECU. They basically asked for the ECU model and said if there's a local Pro Tuner (their site have the list), they can work for a custom flash for my FX. I forgot all about it eventually but might go that route sometime.. Basically, if there's a local tuner, it's a good alternative. The only problem is that they WON'T give support and transfer the registration to another vehicle if you decide to sell Osiris. That is, it doesn't have any resale value.

It does have resale value, you just need to acquire a new license for it. It's licensed per vehicle. So yes, it will have POOR resale value, but you can still sell it knowing that there's a license to acquire in order to use in the new vehicle.

So the crap my bro brought up about the guy asking the tuner about 350Z's... he was trying to offer this UpRev Osiris, and it was the $900 version:

I'm going to stick with UTEC, although I really might have gone this route had I known about it before the UTEC. I did get an insane deal on the UTEC though, and paid ~$350 less than this Osiris, and the tuner has had experience with UTEC on Soobies and EVOs.

Ege like you said, it looks like it'd be worthwhile to try this thing out (for FI, that is)

Guys, simple question:

What FX35 flash offers the best documented gains?

There isn't any "officially" documented flash for FX. Basically, there isn't that many people that does the flash and it's not really offered as a package like it does for other cars like Porches, 350Zs etc.. The best documentation will be here, especially on Technosquare since there are plenty of members in CA lucky enough to drive there and get the flash.

Now on the other side, our engine is basically the same engine as 03-05 350Z and 03-06 G35 coupe. If you search my350z.com or g35driver.com, you'll see the offerings and what will be the average gains. That same gain (not the end hp) should apply to the FX, if you are RWD. If you're AWD, you're in bad luck since there aren't any AWD 350Z or G35 you can compare the results with.

That said, no dyno is the same and each gain will differ by the tune. Since each tune is done custom, not as a single simple package, the results may vary significantly. Sounded like a cancer drug ad.. :.smile:

EG3,

Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated!

I also contaced Uprev for their Osiris standard
We can support the FX35, though we may need to patch the particular software
ROM that is running on your car before we can do base tuning.

Price depends on where you are located. If you're near either our shop or
one of our Pro Tuners, you can buy the flash service for $400 and then add
in their dyno tuning charge. Or if you're not local to a Pro Tuner you can
purchase the Osiris Standard that includes the Cipher cable for $700 and
includes three eTune updates. Osiris Standard cannot support forced
induction on vehicles that are naturally aspirated stock.

We can send eTune updates without having a dyno data log, though the detail
captured while on a dyno is superior, we often just use Cipher logs while
driving.

We do not adjust line pressures, to do that you should contact GTMotorsports
or Import Performance Trans for valve body upgrades.

We can remove the throttle restriction. We also adjust the other parameters
you are looking for.

^^^ I sold the e-manage ultimate on the Z & G forums so I'll probably go the Osiris route since I already have the cipher. The only thing is a pro tuner close to me. They were looking for one in NY. If they can find somebody to work with there, I'll probably head out to NY and get the tune. In the mean time, have some other projects in mind

Take a trip to Chicago

This is a timely post for me as I had the guys at Uprev fix/replace my turbos. Apparently a shop to remain unnamed "forgot" to install heat shielding. That cost left a mark!

Uprev indicated that the JWT system included a piggy back. That piggy back seems to cause my AFR to be very lean. Does all of this sound reasonable?

I am thinking about having Uprev install their system which would replace the piggy back and fuel injectors. Hopefully this will improve performace and reduce the need for another turbo replacement.

It seems I am fairly ignorant in all of this and my ignorance is costing me

Hehe, StuLax: the dime dropper.

I think it's fair to mention names though, for other members' sake at least.

As for the UpRev... the piggyback unit that the JWT comes with is MORE than capable of providing a solid tune. The tune itself is what would be leaning you out, and I have a hard time believing you're maxing out the injectors that the JWT kit came with. If you've been goin strong 90,000+ miles, why is it an issue now?!?! Maybe you need new injectors, being that you have over 90k boosted miles on them, or maybe you just need them cleaned and flow-tested. Either way I think has similar prices, especially since many injector companies take your used ones back with a core refund.

actually i wouldnt have said anything, but it just so happens i read alot last night on how bad these guys are/have been. i guess i felt deceived because i thought they were good. glad i know better now. and ya, i think it is good to give out names also. if a place doesnt do good work, they deserved to be ratted out. i would just stick with uprev from now on though. was your FX ever damaged at SGP, or did it have alot of miles on it when you got it back?
