DVD Player only plays in park and brake on

Hello all, I have my two little boys with me from time to time. One thing that really bothers me is that my M37x comes with DVD player. However, it only plays when the vehicle is in park with foot brake on. I hate to invest some money in two DVD headrests. How can I bypass the handbrake and when it's in park? I know there are a lot of knowlegeable peeps on here. Any suggestions? Thanks all!

It's plug and play. Install it to the OEM media harness, find a place for your toggle switch, ground and you're done. Take your time with it and you'll do fine.

Not sure for the 2012 M's

But for the 2006-2008 all you need is a switch and a few feet of wire and an hour of your time to do the DVD- BYPASS (under $20)

I located the plug with most wires behind the GPS player which is above the glove box.

1st you cut the PINK wire (parking brake) and then you only ground the side that goes in to the plug, the other side of the pink wire just gets taped up.

2nd you cut the GREEN wire (VSS) and place a switch in between.

Just test it to make sure it's working, thats it your done. All you have to do is put everything back together.

Here is a pic of the switch on the left of the bluetooth:

You can look into running a bypass like one of these. You can manually override the DVD and Navigation block that is placed while the car is in drive. With one of these you can play dvds and access the Navigation while driving.

How hard is this to install? I just bought my M and I'm really nervous about messing it up.

Whoops. I see the reply where it's stated as plug and play. Sorry I missed that. Is the wiring hard to get to? I'm a little concerned about taking my console apart.

Does anybody have a how to for the beat sonic system? Do I have to pull out the radio/nav system to get to the appropriate harness or can I do it all from the glove box access? The beat sonic instructions are terrible.

Bump on any hints for install. I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow.

I got my beat sonic bypass installed. Ilya's how-to below helped tremendously. The hardest part was getting the shifter knob off...no kidding. It took a couple hours max to install. Realistically, it should take less than an hour. I got everything back together and realized I forgot two screws in the console, so I had to take it all back down.

The beat sonic bypass cable connected behind the main control unit (behind the CD changer in the front console)

Oh and don't forget the ground wire. Mine wouldn't work without it.
