DTRL-Turn Signal Swap

i just did mine ....... had tough time cus the drl bulb fell into the turn signal socket had to put tape around a stick em outta there but im just wating to see how bright they get

Seems like lately there were quite a bit of people dropping the bulb into the headlight while taking them out.... That's what I understood from his post..

yea that was the case....hard time taking it out cuz the tab i cut may have been too bigs so i was wiggling it and the bulb fell.... no i dont have creed bulb ...mine is blueish but its really dark so dar i have hard time seeing it even at nite hmmm

I know this is a old thread but does anyone have any pics with the updated dtrl and if so where can I buy the updated ones you guys purchased as a group. Thanks in advance.

The group buy was an epic fail the lights didn't work for the DTRL application.

There may be other bulbs that would work.

Does anyone still use this mod? I thought I read somewhere about the DTRL melting the headlight when put in the turn signal socket? I just want to make sure it's safe to do this mod

Oh the mod will not melt headlight housing. It was the high power CREED LED bulbs used. This mods is save to use regular or standard LED.

So after the Cree LED fiasco I will be replacing my headlights with some new modded gloss black headlights and do not want any overheating issues with running LED bulbs. That being said what's the best and brightest 6000k option for LED bulbs to run in the turn signal housing as DTRL's.I believe they are the 7440/7443 bulb socket.

which 7443 led bulbs you guys are currently using?

i was running this from v-leds on a stock location
7.5w 5000k version. quality built all metal construction. little different with the picture.
250

but after doing the swap with turn signal, v-led bulb was little too long to fit in the turn signal housing and ordered this from ebay seller "dt-autotech"
3w and only come on 6000k..

can't seem to find nicely built short stubby version of 7443 led bulbs like the v-leds

The bulbs in your first pic is too long and it will scratch the clear plastic lens. Hope you didn't scratch the plastic lens in the attempts. I like the look of the second pic. Do you know if they are one Cree LED or multiple SMD type? I'm running just standard 36 LED for now since the Cree were burnt.

didn't scratch the lens since it doesn't even barely fit anyways.
i liked the v-led version because with all metal construction, it seems to handle the heat better than others with plastic base.

looks to be its one 3w led with lens on top to disperse the lights (somewhere between 300~340 degrees of angle).

No pics yet since I have to wait for the new bulbs to arrive. Just ordered them last night. Maybe tonight, I'll post a pic with V-Led just resting in the turn signal housing.

Also for mine, I had to cut both of the 7440 & 7443 socket tabs. One of the tab on the turn signal socket was longer than the opening.

Any pics of the new headlights?

Length comparo. New bulb sits perfectly in the turn signal housing (very very close).

LED is bluish since its 6000k. Glad that it wasn't any bluer. Usually eBay 6000k bulbs are really really blue close to 8000k

Turn signal on.

Obviously less brighter than the 7.5w V-LED, but this one is bright enough too. Also bulb look good in the housing compared to something like this
