DTRL-Turn Signal Swap

So it looks like the heat from the prolonged use of the Crees is causing them to burn out quicker. I'm surprised, usually LEDs don't run that hot. Could be the design along with the glass projector inside our housings contributing to failure. Just the other day, I was doing a walk around of my car and noticed one bulb went out for a few seconds and then went back on. But other than that, the bulbs still look good and work, but now I'll pay more attention to them. There are still no good bulbs on the market that can match the color intensity and look of the Crees. If mine go out, I'm going back to amber LED's until we can find a suitable replacement.
 
Good news, just got off the phone with JLC. In two weeks they will release a new bulb that matches the CREES we have been purchasing in both color and intensity that are made specifically for DTRL applications and can handle the heat.....They are sending me specs and pics later today, I'll post them up when I receive them.

Sounds promising. He just emailed me to say that they have been running them in an Acura TL for a solid week with no fade or burn out issues. They are focused on finding a durable LED bulb that will work in the DTRL position.....my concern is that the color matches up with my DDM 6K bulbs =) How did the CREES match up to your HIDS and what were you running if I can ask?
 
Nice, did they say anything about the looks or price? Will it be a mini-projector style bulb? I have Morimoto heads and DDM fogs. They match pretty close at about 95%. I was going to upgrade to Mori foglights, but passed for now. When one DDM bulb burns out, then I will swap to Mori fogs. The Crees compared to the bulbs are slightly more purplish. But its okay because it looks really good like that and gives off a nice high end look, not like some crummy standard led bulb that is ricer blue.
 
I have been running white leds in my DTRL for over 1 year and then a few leds went out on one. I bought them from ebay, but they no longer listed, the bulbs cost me about $40. I saw Vleds have one with a metal from for heat dissipation, but I'm not spending +$80 for them 9w/ 90 warranty , what a joke)

I have them in the turn signal location and I think the sun gets them hot also.
 
Yes, the Crees did have a nice exotic look to them. Keep us posted lance, I'm in for the group buy also
 
More information today, I guess JLC was in the process of moving and they fell off the grid........Two weeks of constant testing and the bulbs are supposed to be solid. Pics or vids tonight.
